I have searched, kind of started to half *** it half way through the 15 pages though. ADD is Awesome I'm looking for a soldering iron to do some copper roof racks for the guys down a the LHS, they said they were looking for cheap roof racks for their cars and trucks. I was looking around on tower tonight and came across some small copper tubing. And ended up Ordered some. Now I'm looking for an iron to use for this and doing the occasional battery pack or soldering on some connectors. I want it to be cheap. Links would be super fantastic |

If you are doing roof racks out of copper tubing, are you sure you want a soldering iron? Copper tubing lends itself more towards a propane torch.

Sorry I'm a bit of a n00b, but I always thought you soldered copper tubing, maybe I do need a propane torch.

Yep, hit Home Depot or Lowes and check the plumbing section. If you are doing copper tubing, they have all the tools there that you will need. Often at an older store, there usually is someone on staff that knows exactly how to do it properly too, in case you have never done it before.

And to add for a soldering iron for wiring I have loved my Weller 40W I got from Menards, to sum it up I got the whole soldering station last X-Mas and my iron wasn't working to well any more because it needed a tip so I went shopping and couldn't find a tip so for $13.99 bought a whole new 40W Weller iron with the wide chisel tip, man it works awsome with my station..best money ever spent on an iron.
