| Die help
Just started to make my own titanium links from 4mm rods. I use a M4 die. But I really would like to have a bit coarser threads for more bite. Have heard the American dies is better in that aspect, but I'm not familiar with the American ones since I'm European. So my question is. Is there a size I can use on 4mm rods? If there is not a good die for 4mm rods, suggestions on other rods and dies for use on Traxxas revo rod ends is appreciated. And does anyone know what thread Traxxas use on there push rods? Is your die marked: "M4 X .70" or "M4 X .50"?

It's on the lower side, but 8-32 would work. I use 8-32 with 3/16" solid rod (cheaper here) but I have to turn down the ends before threading.

I've always used 5/32" (3.97mm) music wire with a 4mm die. 4x.7 or 4x.75, whichever I grab first. They don't last long anyway |

I use a 10-32 Die on my 3/16 rod to fit into the Axial rod ends (i know, crappy rod ends)

I've been "turnng" 3/16" stainless rod (because it's cheap, $12 for 12 feet) down to 3.93mm average diameter with a steady hand and a good rest on a bench grinder and tapping with a 4x.75 8mm Matco die (because it's lifetime warranty) for Revo ends. I've also tried 8-32, which has meatier threads for sure. But I didn't like having to slightly drill out the rod ends to prevent stress marks from appearing once stretched over the larger threads. Didn't have to remove much, but when you've got a fleet of toy trucks to maintain, little extra steps add up. Maybe I'm just OCD, cause others seem to get away without drilling the rod ends. What I'm still looking for is a decent left handed 4mm die? |

With some loctite they seem to hold on good enough with the 4mm, but only time will tell. Will look some more into a coarser die if they fail. Have also ordered some 5mm od 3mm id stainless tube. Will try to make some links that way to. Maybe it's easier to tap |

3/16" Ti or 1/4" SS tapped with a 4mm die is what most companys use. Plenty strong, Ive yet to see a rod end pull off the threads (unless maybe someone messed up and stripped the rod end prior, then its possible). Usually the Ti or SS will snap where it tapers down/end of threads or if your running a lot of power, the pivot ball will pull through the rod end.
