I'd be weary of putting the magnets that close to the flame for long though, magnets have a tendency to get de-magnetized with the amount of heat used for brazing/welding (even the welders magnets can get de-magnetized). |

I tried some magnets when I put the link mounts on my build. They exploded from the heat. I won't be doing that again. |

I did it with a Neodymium (rare earth magnet) I got out of one of my sons toys and it was quickly de-magnetized. Don't get me wrong though, I certainly do use magnets, every time I braze, just not to something like this. The way I as doing the nut brazing was by putting it on the end of the threaded rod and then using the magnet to hold the opposite end of the rod. If you give the magnet a good 4-5 inches from distance from the torch, you should be fine. Just make sure you don't get it too close. |

Might want to wear pants next time.... Anyway. I haven't made lot of Tubers. But what I did was just tack it with the Mig. If I needed to move it or push it on way or the other I still could. Then I finished welding around it. But you have to have some super fine MIG Wire for that. But thats more of a Tip for welding. Oooops. Never Brazed anything...specially my nuts. | |

I put a little on the tube, then put a little on the nut, then use pliers to hold the nut while I melt the 2 together, then I carefully fill it in. Mostly I use the TIG welder and pliers and fuse weld the two, much faster.

I use magnets. when that doesn't work I'll use vice grips. When that doesn't work I'll then try and lay it on the table and braze. My daughter helped me with crawlit 2.2's build, but she didn't need gloves. Never even thought about using CA, might have to see how that works out. |
