Default good wheel base?

i'm makeing a crawler and i am thinking about a 16" wheel base. for now it will only be 2ws so is 16" to long? maybe i'll go with 14 or 15, what do you think. i will be doing crawling over logs and up little steep hills but i need good turning because it is pretty tight where i drive.

thanks
colin

will a 2055 traxxas servo work ok for rear stear? or is it not powerful enough?

I'd say go with at least a 16" wheelbase.

That servo really doesn't have enough power, especially for the rear axle.

If sticking with 2WS and you plan to wheel it hard... Plus want a decent turning radius, I'd say get it near the 15" mark. Although, you'll want it to be a low profile build-up but still have a good amount of center ground clearance.

Vance's old Maxx ran a 15.5" WB and had 2WS.... it spanked the rest of the Maxx trucks in our group that had a 16" WB w/4WS!

that crawler looked really cool, should i try to mount the shocks from the chassis to axel or should i mount the shock from chassis to lower links?

Chassis to axles is the only way to go on a shafted truck. On a Clod setup mounting the shocks to the links is fine as the chassis torque doesn't pose a problem. On a shafted truck I think going from chassis to axles helps for fine tuning out the torque twist that can present a problem.

If you're building a Clod you can mount them to the links, if you're building a shafty mount them to the axle.
