Running full droop will help keep your cog low, and keeps the back end from squatting when climbing a grade. Problem is that you lose ground clearance.

Some put springs inside the shock to help keep them down, plus you can still run springs on the outside to raise it up a tad.

You can go with bent links to raise your gc and still run droop.

Check my Mega Manta thread. I've got bent links, and full droop with no spring either inside or out, but run thick shock oil. It does well, and if I need a little more gc, I can throw some springs on to pick it up a tad.

someone correct me if i'm wrong, but in droop the springs are internal and sprung they are outside the shock body. with sprung the spring force is used by the axle pushing against it. Now droop is the force from the axle pulling away useing the sping in the shock. hope that helps so you can understand it

You got it, though its not mandatory that you use internal springs.
