Default Worth buying new?

Hi fellas.

What is your opinion on buying a brand new E-Maxx to convert to a crawler?

I would like to build a super, thought about a clod based one but it seem as though the cost could spiral to complete something really nice. Also the clod axles confuse me a bit, what with them being old and used - need upgrading or mega expensive buying new.

The E-Maxx looks to me like a good compromise with the majority of the parts being used as a donor to complete the crawler.

It'll only be used for fun, I'm not planning to compete any time soon.

Perhaps I've answered my own question here.....

Thanks guys.

Neil.

Its only worth it if you prefer shiny and clean vs saving money.

Maxx parts are cheap and plentiful. Used rigs can be found similarly.

I bought new once and probably never will again unless its something I just gotta have.

There doesn't seem to be many Maxx bargains here in the uk, used examples go for top dollar on ebay. The new larger E-Maxx's already come with double front servos, stronger parts and all the radio gear. Comparing the cost to building a clod from scratch, a new E-Maxx looks as though it's well worth converting...

You can find parts lots or just the axles and buy the tranny seperate. That's all you would use on a new one anyways. Ohhh yeah the esc too

Then there is the dig issue....Unless you are prepared to chop up some axles then your out of luck. That is probablyt the big reason ppl use clod axles , they can use elec dig ( I think) I have a clod based super that needs finishing but I am sure I will just sell it verses about 2-400$ in servos. There are advantages and disadvantages of going maxx based super... Just need to weigh them out and decide.... Mine is being built for fun in the yard with crawling ability. I still have a 2 speed tranny(not advised for more serious crawling). There is too much slop in the 2 speed and you wont need 2nd gear for crawling. There are planty of deals on this forum for maxx axles and diffs. From there its buy or make parts as you see fit...

Just got an unbelievable deal on a new e-maxx. I couldn't buy the parts necessary for the crawler this cheap. My other half thinks I'm nuts for ripping this apart.

Can't wait...

Expect loads of dumb questions..

If you decided to lock out the arms and go from there great score...
However if you decide the go all out and make new arms /straight axle.
Then you might have got stroked... meaning diffs go for bout 15$ each (seen cheaper) and the tranny can be had for under 50$. From there its upgrade to revo parts shafts knuckle ect...
