Default My Solid Axle Build Up

Just thought I would post a couple pictures of my build up before I get ahead of myself. Would like to see what you guys have to say about my plan/progress so far.

A few specs:
-Custom solid axles.
-Revo shafts all the way around.
-locked out stock e-maxx trany
-Custom tube chassis
-Custom 3-link suspension
-...thats as far ahead as I am looking right now.

A few pictures...

Constructive criticism is always a plus. Everything is just mocked up, no welding yet(plan on tigging everything).

I drilled 1/4" steel rod out on a lathe with 11/64" drill bit. And tapped with a 5mm-.8 tap. Worked out really well.

I added some more pics to my thumbnail..check it out..

Well I made some more progress today. I got my Revo steering knuckles in today, so I was able to make a jig to mock my axles up. I still have to brace the main tubes, but I like what I see so far.

New Pictures added:

Anyone see any problems with my setup so far? Almost ready to tig it up.

revo stuff is really solid, you will like the feel. My maxx is half revo now and its awesome. What diff are you going to put in the middle? No need to stick with maxx diffs when you could put an 1/8th buggy diff in. Adapting revo shafts is no problem at all.

Your build is looking great though! You already have a solid start.

Thanks guys for the feedback.

Yeah I am planning on running maxx diff since I already have them. I cut the middle plates out for them.

I am really impressed with the revo stuff! It all seems really strong and very servicable. Will keep posting my progress. Thanks again.

They look pretty sweet. I am building the same thing but with revo diffs. I was wondering if you could maybe tell me how you made them.

here is one way, that is pretty close to what he has done Hybrid Straight axle info that was my first set of axles.. man was they heavy

and here is my new axle, made from 1/4" tubing, instead of the solid rod... makes the axle alot lighter

ohh forgot.. on your jig that you made, how did you go about that? been trying to figure out the best way to make a jig for my axles... did you drill a hole where the stub axles sit in? then just measure everything else in place?

the only thing is, I tack weld mine to just hold it, then i braze it together. I really wouldn't want the axles in there to get messed up.. guess i'll figure something out

look the pics towards the bottom and you'll see how he did it. Looks pretty simple really and good way to make sure both axles are the same on the either side and front and rear. Not saying your way doesnt work either.

Well I started by taking my revo shafts and seeing what was the maximum angle I felt comfortable running them at. I laid the shaft on a piece of paper at that angle and got a fairly close measurement of diff-to-knuckle.

Then I started by attaching the center brace of the jig. And adjusted the outside braces to get the proper angle. I also drew a centerline running the whole length of the jig to keep it all straight.

I then installed diff plates and knuckles and started cutting and fitting the main axle tubes.

I was fairly happy with the results.

Well I got the axles assembled and started looking into what wheelbase I will be looking at with revo shafts.

Couple pics.....

It looks like: 16 1/4" WB
3 1/4" Diff Clearance
5 1/2" Trany Clearance

Now I have to get my Autocad working so I can come up with a few chassis designs.

Question....why don't more guys run shocks on the axles?? I have both stock maxx and savage shocks. Would like to hear a couple opinions on shock placement.

Thanks for all the help!
