Default 9T pinions

I am going to take my E-Maxx out tomorrow and try it on the rocks. It is pretty stock other than the RPM stuff that was on it when I got it.

My question is, I got this for wheelie poppin fun. The guy that I got it from has put 14T pinions on it, and it won't wheelie for anything. From what the hobby shop said, the motors are wore out, but they still seem to have good low speed torque.

SO, the question, can I put 9T pinions on this truck without modifying the mount?

Also, I have a 66T spur gear, if I go with a larger 72T gear, would that help it crawl better?

The 9t pinions will fit on there WO modifications, I have done it myself before. The 9t pinions and the 72t spur would give it more power to the wheels. You would lose your speed though. But it is still far from SLOW in my book.

Mine is very slow, compared to the other one I had. I was thinking about swapping the spur gear to a 72T, but wasn't sure if that would speed it up or slow it down.

On a car, you put more teeth on the ring, and less on the pinion to go lower, and pop out harder. So, I figured it should be the same. Same goes true for crawling.

Yep T-man you are correct! Bigger spur and smaller pinion = more acceleration/torque and less top speed.

I have a emaxx tranny in my X-hybrid. Before the gear reduction I had 72/9 gearing with a Kyosho Mag mayhem motor and in 2nd gear it would top out at about 12mph or so.

72/9 gearing is the way to go for crawling with an emaxx tranny.

Robinson Racing Products sells 9t pinions for emaxx's.

Here's a link from Tower hobbies.

So, the 9T pinions I have for the CLOD probably won't work?

I will check tonight, but I am thinking the pitch is wrong.

I'm not sure about clod, but emaxx is 32p.

Yes the Clod is 32pitch. I think all traxxas models are 32pitch as well

It's true................they are both 32 pitch. I'm using the same R.Racing 9 toothers in both my clod crawler, and my work-in-progress shaftie with an emaxx tranny.
