| tranny question
I am thinking of keeping my tranny with both gears. But has any buddy made the tranny so you shift it manually, instead of having a servo hooked to it. any ideas on how to keep it in one gear with out just sliding into the next. When I go with a custom chassis and 4-link it I dont see alot of room for another servo plus I would like to go 4ws eventually. I read some where on here a guy said he was going to do it but never posted how or even if he even did it.

So in other words your wanting to do aways with the servo and still have the ability to shift to second gear right? I think thats what he is trying to set not sure though.

maybe try using a switch of some sort. go to your hardware store or radio shack and buy an on/off switch. something like this http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=family . you'll want to make sure it is a stiff working switch that will stay in the switched position you put it in mount that to your chasis somehow (make sure it's solid) on the same side as the shifting rod is on the tranny. figure out a way to hook the linkage to that switch (the actual switch part) now when you flip the switch one way it will push you into one gear and hold it there. when you want the other gear you can manually flip the switch to the other gear and it should hold there as well. now i just made this up sitting here at my comp. i cannot proove this works i have never done it. this is just an idea that MIGHT work for what you are looking to do. the electric switch may not be the answer it may not hold it into gear. but the theory and maybe another type of lever actuated switch should work just a thought to try and help. good luck |

THat is actually a good Idea I dont know how much abuse the plastic switch will hold up to but Definitly gives me something to think about.

I had an idea I never got to use. You take two screws that are used on a AE battery cup with the hole in cap that a pin goes in. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXPA20&P=0 Drill 2 holes the distance it takes to shift gears. Make a loop at the end of the linkage. When you want to change gears, take the pin out, pull off the linkage and move it to the next screw and put the pin back in.
