Default SA Maxx revisited

Just did a few things on the maxx, like a bumper and other minor mods. Next on the list is a RockRaider chassis

Went for a little crawlin today, Heres some very minor damage

The rear axle was hung up on a rock, I gunned the throttle and a link popped out. Turns out the screws holding the links to the axles aren't long enough to grab onto the nylon insert in the lock nut. I'll just get some longer screws.

Heres a short video from today-

Its 6-32, I've been driving hard, but haven't bent any. I usually drive on a much bigger rock pile that pictured. You'd be suprised at what 6-32 can take. I've dropped the truck a few times vertically on the front axle and not one bent link.

I'll get some tube for the links eventually.

Turn the nut around so the nylon part is threaded first that way itll stay put.

I think you drive like a sissy

I'm really surprised cause you have your shocks on there too. I had my springs on 1/4" aluminum links and they were bent all over the place, and one of the broke in half.

I'm really suprised that your shocks work in that very laid down position.

Luck, maybe? The links are 18-8 stainless steel.

They do. The suspension doesn't over flex, max is at about 80*.

Dave, you must have jinxed me

Today, I was doing some step crawling. The steps were the right length so both the front and rear tires were trying to get up a step at the same time. There was tons of wheel hop going on and I bent a link because of the torque. I gotta order some aluminum tube.

Anyway, I plan on putting some grooves lengthwise in each of the LST's bigger lugs to make it act more like a Giant Trac. I also plan on lowering the body. I'll get some pictures when I finish.

Get it!!!

Being SS would help a lot, but they still lose because they have such a small diameter. I figured it was potmetal like the allthread you get everywhere...

Since his links are flat, when the suspension flexes, the links go up past flat, and towards the center of the chassis in an arc, if his links weren't flat; that wouldn't work so well

I've been bending links like crazy now. At least 3 links have been bent multiple times. I ordered some 4mm threaded rod and some aluminum tube last night. Hopefully they will hold up a lot better.

FYI:
6-32 is about .140 while 4mm is about .160

Arrows!Youll never bend them.Just cut them to length and run the Treaded rod ,And put the ends on . Easy and Strong.

Got the rears done. They are 1" longer for a 16.5" wheelbase. The front links will be the same length so the chassis will sit about 1/2" forward of center for more front weight. I also made the shocks more vertical but i still plan to lay them down a little more.
