Default Savage crawler question

I have a hpi savage that i am building into a crawler. Used a kershaw design twin 550 mount with two 55 turn lathe motors wired in parallel. A holmes hobbies brxl esc wired for 2 2s lipo in series. The stock gearing on a electric savage is 20/44. I am geared 20/52.

Is my gearing still to tall. 52 is the biggest spur so now my options are smaller pinions.

Next will thesr motors hold up to 14.8 volts.

Thanks

I've no experience with Savages, but I've tried to make a Maxx crawl so maybe I can help you.

Your going to want the lowest gearing that you can physically fit. If the motors will still meet the spur with a 9 tooth pinion, then that's likely what you'll want.

Lathe motors were meant to spin slowly while powering a lathe, typically at 5 or less volts. They will run off of 4s, but their lifespan will be significantly reduced.

If your determined to run 4s you'd be better off running the motors in series so they split voltage. This will also halve your top speed. Or just run a 2s pack with the motors in parallel to save weight.

Oh, and pics or it isn't happening...

I heard from john at holmes hobbies he said my esc is good to run 4s . My motors say they are rated at 12 volt so 14.8 should be ok, just shorter brush life.

I am waiting on small pinions and a servo reversing lead for the 4ws.
i fired it up with 20 turn pinions and it is way to fast.

Got to take it for a quick drive. Went down to 15t pinions, still pretty fast on 4s. When you try to crawl over something the open diffs let the wheel not touching spin. I dont want to run full lockers or spools. Does anybody have opinions on locking paste or silly putty being put in diffs. Or better ideas

Any sort of paste or putty will be a temporary fix at best.

Fill the diff housings with JB Weld and be done with it. Just don't get any on the ring gear.

So i bought actual lockers, swamp kongs and a cage. That went horrible.

I put the big joes back on it and got my steering back. It would go through the horizontal creekbed great. Climb over any rocks or bricks. Went to go up the bank and it didnt have enough umph to pull itself up the bank hardly at all on 2s lipo. So i went to 4s lipo and was overheating the motors horribly to run this. After only 5 minutes i gave up.

So i took the front locker out, 4ws out and ordered two 550 emaxx motors. Now its just going to be a basher.

will this brxl handle two 550 emaxx motors without overheatin or melting down. Since i converted a nitro savage to a emaxx basically.

Thanks

The BRXL isn't even going to break a sweat running those E-maxx motors. Hope your going to run those geared low as well. I had to drop 3 teeth from stock (17 to 14) on my otherwise stock E-maxx to keep the motor temps in check. They still didn't last more than twenty parcks.

lol. Those boggers look ridiculous on there.

You didn't exactly convert to an E-maxx. If you did, you'd be breaking suspension parts every run. Ask me how I know...
