best knuckle weights? Since there are so many options out there now, I'm wondering which are the most effective / heaviest for the price. I've been looking at so many variations, they all seem the same at this point, lol! Thanks! |
Re: best knuckle weights? Get portals and everything at the end of the axle in brass ( not counting wheels ) http://cdn.rcmart.com/images/samix-trx4-6412-12.jpg for Traxxas TRX-4 #TRX4-4412, ,(TRX4-4412) by Samix Brass Knuckle 2 pcs Black In total that will add about 300 grams to your axle. |
Re: best knuckle weights? I personally use different options front and rear on my trex. Front: yeah racing brass portal covers + codyboy knuckle weights"thumbsup" Rear: team dc portal cover/ knuckle weights. Today i myself would go with the ssd portalcover / knuckle weights, if you want knuckle weights. or ask codyboy if he has some still available, handmade and the first option out as i know. But you can gain also weight down with the options mentioned above, without knuckle weights. All parts i used fits right on, no issues. i would get what you like and gives you the weight you want. knuckle weights are not the only option for this. |
Re: best knuckle weights? I went with the portal covers from SSD, on all 4 corners. Highly recommend these, the fit and finish is high quality. And plenty of room inside the JConcepts Torch brass weighted wheels. It's weighing in at 11.4 pounds with battery. Climbing up the steeps is vastly improved. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4566/...67b716c9_c.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4521/...b43c3d27_c.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4569/...a61cfe95_c.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4553/...a445948f_c.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4570/...3d7af0ca_c.jpg |
Re: best knuckle weights? MFR portal & Codyboy knuckle weights are among the first options. (thank you Ernie) "thumbsup" Still the best IMO! http://i64.tinypic.com/kf5wqx.jpg http://i68.tinypic.com/117uuwz.jpg I painted the knuckle weights with aluminum engine block paint for the outer rings, and flat black on the center pieces. http://i64.tinypic.com/1zpo7ep.jpg http://i65.tinypic.com/zsk0a1.jpg http://i63.tinypic.com/x3v96b.jpg now SSD will go on TRX #2 http://i67.tinypic.com/esn3og.jpg http://i63.tinypic.com/28svmyp.jpg |
Re: best knuckle weights? I am running the SSD portal covers up front. They weigh a bit more than the other options and they have a nice durable finish that doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. The short run I have had on it since I added the portal covers impressed me. Then my radio crapped out... I'm not following the trend of adding 5lbs of brass parts. I want to keep the weight reasonable. |
Re: best knuckle weights? I just wanted to add that MFR now has a site you can buy through, a quick search didn't bring it up so I though I would share it https://metalfabbyreed.com/ I would have got these sooner but I didn't want to buy through Facebook, I think this has been up since June so this is kind of old news, but maybe it will help some. |

Re: best knuckle weights? Yeah, either portal covers or weights, either way. Any other good options out there?? |
Re: best knuckle weights? SSD, everything else is inferior. |
Re: best knuckle weights? Maybe this can help some: Brass Portal covers and Brass Axle C's; https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4668/...44da9a19_b.jpg The weight of the factory plastic; https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4760/...25347fe9_b.jpg The weight of a single brass cover; https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4768/...ba0dcd5c_b.jpg Both covers together; https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4768/...38aa183a_b.jpg Factory plastic axle c weight; https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4669/...e073334a_b.jpg Single brass axle c; https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4696/...85e32ef9_b.jpg Both of the brass axle c's together; https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4671/...59def0a8_b.jpg Something to be aware of... not all "bolt on" replacement parts are made the same as factory specs: https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4621/...2d66fa31_b.jpg Factory Traxxas C, notice the positive caster and how much the top of the C is leaning back toward the rear; https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4659/...7e6c466d_b.jpg STRC Brass C, notice it has less positive caster and has less of lean towards the rear of the vehicle at top; https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4658/...edbb9bb0_b.jpg |
Re: best knuckle weights? Thanks for pointing that out about the Chubs and the difference in caster angle. |

Re: best knuckle weights? Well all the castor talk got me wondering if the new Locked Up RC C hubs were the same or not, and they look to have replicated the same bolt pattern as stock. |
Re: best knuckle weights? Team raffee co. Brass portal covers On asiatees, 104.5g each!! But beware of wheel fitment issues. |
Re: best knuckle weights? Thanks for comparison pictures Eddie, STRC needs to pay more attention, the large amount of caster on the TRX-4 is one of it's pros and adds to the offroad ability. :) |

I've been reading up on the matter and have come to roughly understand that with crawlers more is generally better for turning ability but too much may cause rubbing on the links and/or springs. So is the general concept to get as much as possible without causing too much rub? This was prompted by Gmade releasing 2 sets of C hubs for the Gom, one at 10 degrees (stock) and one at 20 degrees. Its too bad its not simply adjustable as its a bit of a commitment. |
