Default Anybody know what the quality on this wheel/tire set might be?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Traxxas-TRX...IAAOSwlthZlkkN

I know it's pretty cheap so I'm not expecting anything amazing, but they look pretty cool and are really cheap for a set of 4. Just wondering if they are as good as stock? I'm not sure what kind of tire this is. I'm brand new to RC's having just got the trx-4 but really enjoying it so far, and looking to make some cheap upgrades just to get my feet wet. Thanks

They're generic, low quality, Chinese tires and wheels. You don't want them.

If you want great tires check out Proline. Wheels depend on your budget.

Thanks for the advice, Any idea what the price point I'm looking at for Beadlock wheels and tires that would be an upgrade from stock?

I'm wondering if maybe a decent way to go would be these wheels.

Assuming they fit the trx-4?

With these tires.

I'm not sure the best way to go about verifying that those tires fit those wheels and those wheels fit the trx-4.

You'll have around $100 in a good set of wheels and tires.
I like proline stuff, the super swampers are a pretty sweet tire. I've heard pitbull rockbeast tires are great too although I've never used them.

Honestly, just about any name brand crawler tire will be decent. If you're just having fun and not competing, I wouldn't sweat needing to have the best tire.

Thanks for the advice, I'm still doing a lot of reading. I hear just upgrading to some decent beadlocks and better foams on the stock tires can be a good boost. I'll keep researching.

Those wheels are good but very light a set of steel wheels would be heavier and provide more traction and help prevent roll over with stock body. Pit bull tires in alien compound are better i personally find better traction with proline hyrax. Check out amain hobby for stuff too you will find nice things there.

Those wheels fit, but they are very old school.

Pitbull tires are nice, but the most expensive on the market and honestly not worth the premium over other brands.

But yes tires make the biggest performance impact in terms of upgrades!

I've bought many Chinese knock off tires which have been great, also alloy wheels at budget prices. Look at feed back and take a chance. I've several sets of dirty cheap alloy wheels. My last set were £33

My Chinese 1.9 beadlock knockoffs feel great in quality, fitment and they hold the beads really well. I didn't take a chance on tires though, I went Proline BFG Krawlers. Grand total of $105. $55 for wheels and $50 for the tires.

Said wheels are on my TRX-4 (black Defender). No regrets, I have a matching spare as well now and I'm looking forward to getting some for my Gen7 (red Defender). You can remove stock tires from stock wheels to save some bucks, that's what I did before I got the BFGs, no issues with that setup either.

IMO, there is no need to rush out and buy new wheels/tires just yet. The stock tires are really not bad. Take your time looking and don't buy something you will regret just to be buying something. Actually your first upgrade should probably be a replacement steering servo. The Savox 1230SG has been a trouble free servo on both of my TRX4s.

Thanks for all the advice, I decided to just get some of those Chinese bead locks and some proline foams and keep using the stock tires. I hadn't read that I needed to tape up the wheel holes before getting them wet and I got allot of water in them, I tried running them near a de-humidifier for two days but there is still water in there.

Figured this would be a good compromise.

My question now is, Do I need to punch holes in the tires themselves since the wheels I'm getting don't have holes in them?

From what I read it sounds like I should punch two holes on each tire opposite ends since the proline foams are waterproof I can just spin the tires after I get them wet and get most of the water out, also need to allow the air in through the holes so the tire can conform to surfaces.

Does this sound correct?

A new steering servo is definitely next on the list.

I have my Proline BFG Krawlers on the 1.9 beadlocks. Water doesn't get in them at all, air doesn't come out either. I've been bashing in the snow recently with no issues too.

I thought if you didn't let air get in the tires would compact and conform around rocks and terrain? Is that not the case?

When the beadlocks are completely sealed it can lead to a bouncy feeling from the tires which some drivers don't like, and you may not get as much conformity compared to vented tires or wheels. The problem with vent holes is water getting into the foams and affecting performance, and degrading them when left sitting over time. That's only a problem if you frequent drive through water/snow/mud though.
