Thumbs up Wireless Winch and Diff Locker Controller

A customer wasn't happy with his remote control that came with his rig and so asked me to make a modified version of my wireless dual winch controller. This will work only one winch and therefore frees up two buttons that are then used to run the two diff locker servos.

Just sharing it here in case you are interested, and to ask if others might like one. If so, I could make it a regular product.

Thanks for your time,
Al

So on the lockers, will this allow separate control of each locker? Basically all open, front lock rear open, rear lock front open, and all lock. I assume the buttons would control 1 diff each and thus be basically completely user controlled as to what is locked.

Yes, very well said. Exactly like that. Buttons C and D are toggles for the lockers.

I have a question for you guys as I don't have one of the TRX-4 rigs:

Would it be better if the servos that run the diff lockers had end point adjustments?
I could build in this feature if it was needed.

endpoints will be great. thats what the org. tx is lacking and killing the miniservos.

I would agree, the end points being adjustable would be nice feature for many to help the servos last much longer.

but if you use the bluetooth option you can adjust endpoints from your phone among other things....

i stand corrected, i just looked in my phone, and only ch1 and ch2 have endpoint adjustments,,,so Heyok it's a great tool you are providing us to prevent those Little servos to burn up.

Okay, happy to make it with end point adjustments.
The price will have to bump up a little vs not having end point adjustments... assuming that anyone actually wants to have one of these things.

It would be great if you guys produced one of these modules that is ran off of the radio, for those of us that have an aftermarket radio and have had to install a T-Lock. The whole mess works with my DX5R, but I can only unlock one diff at a time, and cannot go fully unlocked.

Sorry - what's a T-Lock?
Remember that I don't have one of these rigs and have very little knowledge about them.

Also, when you say you can only unlock one diff at a time with your DX5R, why is that? Is it because of limitations in the transmitter?

Wouldn't you just run the servos from two 2 position channels and therefore have access to all four lock/unlock modes?

Back when the Summit was first introduced with its locking diffs, there was a module on board the chassis that controlled them through a single channel on the radio, this was the T-Lock module. They have updated the electronics and now the T-lock is integrated into the TQi that comes with the truck. Traxxas used this same system in the TRX4, allowing one channel to control the diffs.

In both the Summit and the TRX4 the radio T-lock works the same way, starting with both diffs unlock, then locking the back, then the front (with the back still locked), again, using only one channel.

The T-Lock module is programmed a little differently, depending on channel reversal you can have it work one of two ways:
1: Both diffs locked, or the ability to unlock one diff at a time, but not both.
2: Both diffs unlocked, or the front or back locked, but not both at the same time.
To get the T-lock to work like the TRX4's stock radio does you have to get a servo reversing module to go inline between the RX and and T-Lock (which is just one more thing to buy and is another possible point of failure).

As for my setup with the DX5R, I have all five channels used:
CH1: Steering
CH2: ESC
CH3: Winch
CH4: Diff lock through the T-lock
CH5: 2-Speed Transmission.

Here it is installed in the battery compartment sub-tray my TRX4.

It is not waterproof, so it has been dipped in conformable coating.

Heyok you need to buy yourself a TRX4 so you can join us. I'm pretty sure you could claim it as a business expense.

An update - I haven't made any further progress as I have a very sick puppy. Looks like she is going to be okay now so things are getting back to normal. Once I catch up with existing orders, I'll be on this again.
