Oh yes they do..
The original ones is pretty britle in cold conditions and they breake without beeing abused. I know 3 guys here in Norway the last week that have broken the original housing..

Portals also put more stress on the housings. That's why they break at that point.

Once the temps started dropping this winter I started seeing multiple reports of people experiencing broken TRX4 axle housings on a number of media forums. Judging from the pics posted, all the axles seem to break at nearly the same place so there is something systemic going on here. Personally I would be a buyer for SSD aluminum housings!

Steel housing>aluminum. In my opinion. But I like heavy trucks. But I'd def buy a set if ssd made them. Only one I've seen so far is a cheap chinese steel housing which I doubt is much stronger.

You do get a fair amount of extra weight with the aluminium housings, and they seem pretty durable so far. I've been out driving in all sorts of weather, even -15 degrees celsius without any problem.
