| How much weight is too much??
Long story short: Brass c-hubs - front Brass Lower links - front and rear Brass portal covers- front Brass knuckle weights (pendulum style)- front and rear So when will this rock not want to climb anymore? Have I overdone it? I already need harder wheel foams... running proline foams with XL tsl swampers... Also, what image hosting site works now? |

This doesn't answer the thread question but I use Tinypic to upload and directly copy and paste the image code.

I have wondered the same thing. Seems to me that you just can't set an arbitrary number for too much weight. My #1 rig weighs in right at 11 pounds and it crawls like crazy. Seems to me that a better indicator is comparative testing and once performance starts to fall off you have gone past the optimal weight for that particular setup. Obviously weigh placement is critical and the lower and further outboard the better in order to lower the COG.

The whole point of adding weight is to move the center of gravity down in the TRX4. Other than just buying all the brass, did you make any effort to lighten the body (up top)?

My goal is still removing weight and moving it around. There is no magic number at all, just more tuning for weights. I have done crawling on the comp side, we did the super fat rigs, they worked but once the lightweight craze kicked in the trucks worked far better. So while I'm building a comp only truck using TRX axles with a goal of 4-5lbs rtr, getting a TRX-4 with minor mods down that far seems a daunting task. All I have is 160g on the front. Moved the battery down on the passenger side tray. Lowest ride height settings, and of course new lighter body. Also removed the overly heavy fender liners, while cool they aren't helping anything. |

I dont have much experience on rocks - but the heavier your rig is, the faster it will dig down on loose ground. I only added the SSD knuckle weights to the front and an additional 100 g in the front between the rails and it works very well so far. Replaced the spare wheel with a fake foam only wheel under a cover and dont have anything heavy on the roof rack. |

My Wraith weight around 10lbs on side hill is horrible easy to slide. My SCX10 II weigh around 6lbs on side hill it is incredible stable, very hard to roll over. Just stable. |

You also need to factor in the more weight the more stress on the motor/ESC and drive line components. You may need to power up or gear down etc.

So with all the brass take the TRX4 to 8.4 pounds including body and battery... See a few pics I think most wont like the Raptor body but it’s light and I made it clear at full articulation! Really happy with its performance now... but I need some harder foams Last edited by Tak; 01-09-2018 at 02:02 PM. Reason: Images resized |

Today I went for some crawling and I feel that the weight of the trx4 steals from its capability. This was obvious when climbing a steep rock that had a step that needed to be overcome, if you can understand what I’m trying to say... I’m going to start by lowering the battery and removing the brass links... I think the portals do give you good clearance but put the CG way too high... it’s a trade off |
