I noticed it on the first run....pretty weak. Thanks for the heads up. Do you have any recommendations?

Savox SA 1230SG. I'm running three of them now and have no issues in a couple hundred run hours. Along with the servo I also installed Hot Racing aluminum servo horns.

SAVÖX
SA-1230MG

Pick up a good aluminum servo horn and a BEC also.

Hot Racing servo horn (this horn is 22mm hole to hole just like the traxxas oem horn)
HOTTRXF25SH06

6" Y-Harness

Castle Creations BEC 10A Switching Regulator just squirt silicone in both ends of the shrink wrap to make it waterproof.

I have 2 of them and they are nice. Although this model is not rated as being waterproof they are splash proof and can take a short dip in the h2o, I don't put a lot of stock in the so called "waterproof" servos since I've seen and read of many dying after immersion into liquid. The absolute minimum torque I'd go with is 250 and that is way too low for me. The 1230 is rated at 500 oz/in. Just be sure to set your end points because that servo can break and bend steering components if left to overdrive the mechanical limits of the steering components.

Oh, almost forgot...the Traxxas servo has an unusually long lead on it, so any aftermarket servo you get you will need to get or make an extension, since you'll need a bec pick up a 6" y-harness, plug that into the servo channel then plug the servo and bec into that, remove the red wire from the esc plug at the receiver since you will no longer need use of the incompetent 1 amp bec in the esc.

From an absolute performance standpoint, I'm sure The Savox SA 1230SG is the way to go, especially if you take the extra step to waterproof it. at ~$70, it's not the most expensive servo in the world either. Above it's 400 oz of torque, your well into over-kill territory for most applications.

That being said, considering you have two trucks to outfit and maintain, I've previously had good luck with Power HD servos for general trailing. The Power HD LW-20MG checks a lot of boxes as an 'entry level' replacement for the stock servo: it's cheap at ~$20 per servo, has serviceable levels of torque (230 oz on the standard 4.8v output from the rx), and is waterproof out of the box.

If you need more torque, it has a big brother, the Power HD WP-23KG @ ~$40, but I feel the 20MG is the better value.

Note that on the rocks, the servo will occasionally stall and the wheels won't track straight if the front wheels bind up between rocks, but this is rare, and for general around-the-yard fun, it'll dutifully steer the truck, and also hold it's own out on the trail.
