| Micro servos at 7.4v
Has anyone successfully ran their micro servos at 7.4v without burning them up? For reference, I’m running a HW 1080 esc and have a steering servo that can run that voltage. Along with a hacked GT3C that does have endpoint adjustment. Currently only running the BEC at 6v |

What I did was use a bypass adapter, It sends the extra BEC power to the servo only which is the only item that should really need extra. this way you don't need to risk frying the micro servos. These are pretty simple to make if you have the wiring bits, just use the images in that link for reference. |

Thanks! I have seen that method before. I should’ve mentioned that I’m not running an external BEC. Was hoping to avoid that if at all possible, just to keep things less cluttered and it’s more crap to buy.

Ah I see, yeah I'd be a little bit concerned about running that voltage, if its the stock servos they're rated for 4.8v If you end up considering adding a BEC HeyOK makes the no brainer external BEC which has a bypass adapter built into the wiring, so it would be a tiny bit less clutter but you will need a Multimeter to check and set the voltage. https://www.freewebstore.org/heyok-p...2_8041236.aspx Last edited by HumboldtEF; 12-22-2018 at 11:44 AM. |

At $40, too bad the dual channel version doesn’t have independent voltage adjustment. For the single channel version, I don’t see how it’s any different than a castle bec, other than the wiring is already done. I have no problem wiring anything, just wanted to keep it simple and less stuff to add. Thanks for the suggestions tho! |

Hmm... Wonder if I could wire in something like this to the micro servo: https://solarbotics.com/product/17185/ |

Technically you could, but as a linear regulator it may get pretty hot. A micro module from ebay with the MP2315 costs less, has same size and is capable of 3A. And as a switching regulator it won't get hot. See ebay 322659010647 for example. This module won't need extra caps, too, just solder it in and you're good to go. And you know this is another BEC either way, right? ;) |

Good find! Yes, I do realize it’s just another version of a bec, but I don’t see the need to spend $20+ just to knock some voltage down for a tiny $15 shift servo. |

I use those modules whenever they're sufficient with their 2A cont/3A peak capabilities. Far cheaper than anything with the name "RC BEC" on it, and way better than any linear regulator (except with the noise ;) ). Almost anything electronic and selfmade in my house is powered by them because they have 7805/TO220 size & pinout, need no caps, have an Enable signal. |

That is incorrect, actually the stock servos are rated at 6v. Look at the specs on the XL5 ESC, it's BEC output is rated at 6vdc @ 1amp. Last edited by Inspector86; 12-23-2018 at 10:16 AM. | |
