I'm getting a Hobby wing 1080 esc for another crawler. I was wondering if that would be a better option for my trx4 than the stock traxxas esc.

In my opinion, yes, it is better than the stock ESC because it’s more adjustable.

Without a doubt a much better option than the stock ESC, 1080 is probably the best budget ESC going. |

Personally I love the stock esc, but after smoking it through my own stupid fault I bought the 1080..... And it failed after a few months of water abuse. Now my issue is I've just ordered the axe system and I'm worried that it will fail the water test as it has the same on off switch!

Don’t overlook the castle sidewinder 4 esc and Holmes hobbies revolver system. Amazing combo less maintenance

The 1080 is as waterproof as the XL5, and needs as much mainentance: almost nothing. The button/LED is waterproof, as long as the silicone caps on the buttons are intact. The problem may be from the programming port, those pins have BEC voltage, are close together and are deeper than the rest so will keep a bit of dirt and water, which will cause corrosion. Rinsing it with clear (or better: distilled) water and drying it helps a lot, but that should be done with the whole car after water exposure, and also with the XL5, too: the heatsinks are different potentials and corrode, resulting in unwilling reverse. That said: the 1080 is _the_ budget improvement, there's nothing better for that money. Better BEC, better programmability, better control, silent motor, slower startup. You'll lose the quick profile switching, and the ESC/Rx-Wire is shorter, but at everything else the 1080 is better. There are better options like some AXE, Castle or Holmes, but not for that price. |

| Re: Hobby wing 1080 Mine is regularly wet, and now can't be used as it's started switching itself on and off at will. It's visually perfect, and despite the price meant to be 100% waterproof hmmmmm🤔

Maybe I’m missing a detail on the 1080, but that is an easy way to bypass a switch.

It's not a swich it's a button. I don't think you can just cut and solder the wires. And there is 3 wires so connecting the wrong ones is definitely bad. The silicone button is not water dirt proof. You probably got some dirt under the button. Pull the red button part off and use a Q-tip to clean in the hole. Then mash it back in the hole. The button is keyed so give it a twist till the tabs lock in. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk |

The third wire is a signal wire that allows for programing without the card, the power can be bipassed on the 1080.

If you cut the switch off of the 1080 you won't be able to calibrate it.

You could cut the switch off the 1080 and solder on a new momentary switch in it's place.
