Default Larger Receiver/Electronics box

Hi All,

Does anyone know if Traxxas or anyone else makes a larger receiver/electronics box cover? If not, is there any alternative waterproof box that is larger?

Thanks

Not many larger than the Trx box. You can have a box extension 3d printed. As far as waterproof box. Good luck! You're better off waterproofing your electronics. I used a second box. I believe it was from a revo and mounted it in front of the servo and made an extension for it. You can see pics of it in my build thread. Somewhere in the last few pages. Good luck!!! Have a great day!!!

Not sure if this would work for you but Traxxas makes a larger receiver box cover that can make the stock TRX4 box taller.

Why do you need a larger box?

Perfect, exactly what I was looking for! Hopefully it’s large enough, but it’s a $12 risk I’m willing to take

I have a Futaba TX/RX that has less channels than needed. I wired some servos together and added servo reverses where needed. With one button press I go from 2nd gear with no diffs locked to 1st gear with everything locked. That way I control lights with the other available channel. The wiring and servo reversers make it very tight inside if not impossible to close.

Hmmm, if height is not a problem, maybe the best option would be to get a 3d printed one and some seal rings to waterproof it.

Traxxas receiver boxes are really good. Something bigger, the best that I could find was a rc4wd #z-s0592 box. Bad thing it's not waterproof. But one could use a little rtv or something to seal it. I like it, I have it on my trailfinder and some other builds for a winch controller.

Thinking about drawing up an extension for the RX box, how high would you want it extended? I am thinking 10mm is about right, but it all depends on what you are wanting to stuff in there.

Someone already thought of this, JoeLine on Shapeways has two different heights available.

Unsure what the trx4 has, but traxxas has a few different sizes of rx boxes throughout their vehicle lineup.

Traxxas RX boxes are my go-to for just about any rig I build, I particularly like the 2WD 'Pede RX box, it is very versatile and has lots of headroom. The one thing that bugs me about Traxxas RX boxes is that there is no one universal fit, so if you go to a different box in the TRX4 you have to knock more holes in the floor pan to mount it.

Cool. Didn't figure my idea was unique, just didn't see anyone else offering up any suggestions for the stock RX box. Given that there is about 30 cents worth of plastic there, about 20 minutes worth of design time, not waterproofed and no O-ring, those seem to be expensive. If it were me, I'd price them around $5 for the extension, and $10 with the o-ring. Those o-rings are highway robbery, they run from $4 - $8, depending on where you look. You might be able to get it cheaper, seems like they should only run about 50 cents or so, but I haven't done any research on it.

WOW, they one is a monster!!! Is it water-tight, and if so, how did you seal it?

As far as my design goes, if interested, here is the file on Thingiverse.

Let me know if you'd like a different extension length.

A quick update. A few people have asked me about this design, and requested taller extensions. I have modified the 10mm design, adding 15, 20, 25, 30mm extensions.

For waterproofing, highly recommend an internal and external layer of conformal coating. Also, recommend testing for water tightness before you trust it to keep your electronics dry.

It uses the stock rubber o-ring but that only seals one side of it (top or bottom of the extension). I’d recommend silicone to seal it up better.
