The FJ40 is 10.8 wheel base. The shortest wheel base on the ascender is 10.95, it's a 3mm difference, or 1.5 per wheel, shouldn't be noticeable at all.

Width: the stock ascender wheel width is only 1/2 inch more than the fj40.

So yes it will fit, you'll have to do something to Hide the transmission, or run a front mounted trans with a transfer case. Would look pretty good imo.

If you narrow the axle housings the maximum 6mm per side, they end up the exact same width as the Yota axles so no problem there.

It should be fine with transmission in stock center location, FJ40 body has plenty of room inside.

The stock 10.8" wheelbase of the Gelande is actually a bit short for the Cruiser body, which is why most of the Cruiser builds you see extend the front axle by at least 5mm. Body mounting would take some work on the Ascender, but it should be doable.

The Ascender frame rails can be slid together even closer than the four factory sets of holes, cut off excess frame rails in the center so that they will slide together more , then drill your own new holes. At least one member on RCC has done it and posted pics, maybe userid OSRC? Hmmm....

Seeing the RC4WD FJ40 Kit (For the first time) and between what this thread has established I will be very interested in seeing this idea come together. Very cool project.

This is a new hobby for me, and I've already talked my two brothers and friend into joining the fun (4x4 1:1 owners and now Ascender owners). This is way more addicting than I ever thought it would be

It takes awhile to get caught up on the acronyms, and terminology.
