| 149 R/C WORX Ascender skid!!!!
Back in October I was asked if I'd be interested in testing 149 R/C WORX new Ascender skid and give feedback on it before it was released. Well, I got it in the mail Friday and finally got a chance to get it put on and give it a bit of a try today. Just by looking at it, it looked like a good quality piece that should work. The extra clearance under the skid is a vast improvement over the stocker. Not to mention every hole in the thing was perfectly drilled. I mounted this skid on my short wheelbase Bronco because other than the CODYBOY front axle housing and a pair of home made link risers, it's in stock form, so a good test platform in other words. What I've noticed so far: Of course this didn't give more flex, but the angled link pockets do seem to improve the way the suspension works. Just seems to move through it's range of motion a little bit smother in my opinion. Also when compressing the suspension on the right front there has always been a bit of binding because of the way the axle swings throughout it's travel. This has been noticeably improved. Not 100% gone, but a good 90% improvement. With the added clearance the transmission is raised a little bit, but not enough to make a noticeable change in CG. I did have to grind a little off the right front corner to clear the stock ball-end on the upper link, but keep in mind this is a test unit and not expected to be perfect. I'm sure Snapon boy can give a little more insight into what's been put into this and where it's going |

Thanks, Ernie! It was quite an honor to be asked to be one of the very first to try a new part. All I had to do is keep my mouth shut for a while and give honest feedback. That part about keeping my mouth shut just about killed me |

Ya know, when the first videos of scx10 2 compared to a ascender came out this was the weakest point of the ascender.....the belly clearance.....well...what do ya know....daddy's for a brand new bag.....mine is on the way.

Great write up on a great looking skidplate! Really nice that it comes in colors too. Can the lower link mount grubscrews be removed and reinstalled while the skid is attached to the frame rails?

Does the raised link mount help with torque twist?

Overdue update on this skid. Weather finally straightened out and got in a lot of crawl time last Sunday. In my opinion this skid is a must! Several places I always got hung up at, I crawled right through without any trouble at all. Suspension works great and no noticeable change to CG. As far as torque twist goes, no change one way or the other in that department. Definitely buying one for my long wheel base Ascender!

No contact between the links and the frame?

| Re: 149 R/C WORX Ascender skid!!!! What shock lenght do you run? I'm running stock skid with shocks reduced to 90mm, and the front lower links touch the frame when the suspension being compressed. I would like better skid clearance but I'm afraid frame/link clearance will limit suspension.

It looks to be 3D printed. What material is used? Some materials are better than others, but FDM 3D printing is still not ideal for structural components and/or those that will take lots of abuse. I want to see this skid after a year of hard use. |

If that is the case, it is extremely abrasion resistant. You can take a dremel with a sanding drum and put it to that stuff and barely any material comes off. I have Shapeways printed axle housings from Bowhouse that haven't even worn through the dye on the bottom side in 20+ hours of driving. | |
