| Broken pin of rear pinion driveshaft, now how to disassemble???
Ok I understand this sounds stupid, but really I'm having quite a headache on how to remove the rear pinion from axle to change the damned pin. Can't find a safe way to grab the pinion gear, nor can grab the recessed cvd from outside. If i remember correctly the pinion bolt has some loctite too. I'm stuck! |

For heating I can use the solder iron, done that before on other models. But the main problem is having a grab on the pinion/cvd to loosen the screw. Can't grab it at all without damaging the pinion gear... |

If you just have the cup then what I do is put an Allen wrench or pin of some sort through one of the holes. Then I use a pair of small pliers and put one jaw in the cup and the other on the axle and squeeze it enough to hold it from spinning when the Allen or pin touches the end of the pliers. This usually works. Sent from my ZTE A2017U using Tapatalk | |

When I have to remove these (without being broken) I use some shock shaft pliers to hold onto the stub on the outside. And now that I think about it these dont use a pin at all, see picture here https://www.rpphobby.com/product_p/vtr232072.htm but maybe the flat spots have rounded over, either way you should be able to grab onto the stub that sticks out of the pumpkin and loosen the screw holding the pinion from the inside. EDIT: so what is broken the pin in the driveshaft? or is the pinion spinning on its shaft? Oh and something that might be helpful in the future is the drive shaft adapters that GCM racing and Vanquish make that allow you to use a standard driveshaft, they connect with the typical pin/set screw https://www.rpphobby.com/product_p/vps08200.htm Last edited by HumboldtEF; 10-02-2018 at 05:27 PM. |

I made a tool out of piano wire from the hooby store, it’s the same wire I use to make my own pins when they wear out. Give me a minute to find what page it is on my thread....got a couple of pics of it. |

That is a great solution Yeti.Stealth! If you have a set of snap ring pliers that can be reversed that might do the trick too.
