Default Trying to fit a Turnigy 5800 batt. (138 x 46 x 25mm)

Anyone running a big battery in their rig? Where did you mount it? Do I have to buy one of those aftermarket aluminum large battery trays to fit this battery or is there another alternative? Hoping I don't have to reposition too much.

The Turnigy is 138 x 46 x 25mm (5.43 x 1.81 x 1 in) which seems pretty big to stuff up front on the GCM Shoock Hoops, under the "hood".

I may get the GCM hood if it will fit underneath...

Battery is to long for sure. I use one like this up front with my GCM shock kit. Turnigy nano-tech Ultimate 4600mah 2S2P 90C Hardcase Lipo Short Pack (ROAR & BRCA Approved)

That's what I though. Thanks for the feedback. Didn't know shorty packs existed until now. Looks like 4200 is the max for them currently as well so I'll try that pack out.

Hmmm, I wonder if my LHS has them.

What charger are you using out of curiousity?

TIA,
Ray

Noticed it's the same price coming from what appears to be the same seller on both Amazon (AMF Racing) or Ebay (Advance Metal Fabrication) so I went ahead and ordered it. I also checked out the shorty packs but with this try I can run either option.

From everything I have seen so far, for 2s I would just run that Turnigy 4600mah shorty. I'm still trying to decide if I want to go up to a 3s setup though and I'm trying to find something over 4000mah that'll fit or if I should just buy several of the zippy 2200mah compacts and just swap the batteries to extend run time.

So one other related question... I eventually plan to upgrade to a brushless motor. I assume all of them require an upgrade to a 3s battery or are there any that work decently with a 2s?

Also from what I've found online it sounds like they don't make a 3s shorty battery right?

If not, then a battery tray is really the only solution when upgrading to a brushless setup right?

Again, TIA!

No need for 3s on brushless. I run 2s all the time. 4000kv 4pole with a 2s shorty pack.

There are 2s and 3s brushless motors out there. The Turnigy Trackstar 17.5t seems to be pretty popular in the TH, though it is only rated for 2s.

For 3s batteries the Zippy 2200mah compact is said to fit in the TH and for $15 each you could have a few on hand to swap out.

How do you like it in high gear? Though if I go with the Turnigy (being a 2270kv) it's probably not a very good comparison for me.

Hi Brady,

Thanks for that. Glad I can use the 2s batteries so I don't have to buy new ones.

As for a brushless motor, I already have a Castle SW3 4600 motor (sensorless) and esc. I'll use my 2s batteries with it and try reprogramming the powercurve via the ESC and see how that works. As I understand it will be jerky at low speeds if I don't but by programming it may work fine as it has for others. If it doesn't work to my satisfaction I'll simply bite the bullet & upgrade to a sensored brushless setup instead.

High gear is every bit as fast as a stock 12t traxxas slash, aka awesome! On 3s it is almost undriveable.
