| adale4130's creeper scaler project
Well, I recently bought a creeper off a friend that didn't need it anymore, and I decided to do something a little different than stock. I already have one creeper that I'm keeping 2.2 comp style. Me and my wife recently had a little baby boy, so this is what kept me busy during the last few weeks of her pregnancy. I had to do something to work off that nervous energy. First I stripped the stock creeper down to just axles and trans. After that I started working on a chassis design. I drew it out on thin cardboard, cut it out and mocked it up. It took a couple tries, but this is what I ended up with. Its roughly 16 1/2". 1/8" delrin plate. I wanted to use what I could off the stock creeper kit, so i decided to use the battery tray in a little different way. I hacked it up a lot and ended up with this. I ended up hacking it up some more before it made it to the final version, but this gives you the idea. Here is the chassis all finished up, ready for shocks and links. I used scx-10 shock hoops for a nice fit and look. All cross braces are 5/16" delrin rod. After debating on what tire and wheel to use, I decided to try something new and on a budget. I cut down the stock creeper ridgeline tire. I narrowed and reduced it to 1.9. I tried them out on my scxhoncho and they work pretty well. Here is the comparison of width vs. stock. Here is stock ridgline beside the finished 1.9 ridgline I decided to use hpi stock car wheels. I narrowed them quite a bit for clearance, and i really like the look when the tires are mounted. And here it is all finished up. I used a standard servo and silver can motor for mock up. I havent decided on the electronics yet. I'm using rc4wd 4" piggy back aluminum shocks. As you can tell in these pics, I narrowed the front and rear end just a little. All Links are 5/16" delrin rod cut to size. Here it is with a 1980 chevy body. I still need to do some minor adjusting on it.. probably cut out the wheel wells just a little more for some more clearance. I really like how it turned out and can not wait to fit it with electronics and hit the trails with it.. thanks adale4130 |

Pretty awesome rig...I'm pretty anxious to see how it performs once you get it finished. Next up...a crawler for your little one? I think so haha.

I used thin CA for the initial glue. Then after you get it all glued together, coat along the seams on the inside with rubberized CA glue. Holds really well. Here is a vid of basically how it. This guy does a really good job explaining it. I think he also has a few other vids on reducing tires also. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OJOYmBxo88 Last edited by adale4130; 05-03-2010 at 08:17 PM. | |

| Nice work! Did you lock the diffs or do you still have the ability to lock/unlock? I'm working on a scaler as well and thinking (at least for now) that I'll do the washer mod to the rear diff and leave the front adjustable. |

| For right now they are both lock/unlockable. The guy I bought the creeper from had a remote diff lock kit, but I'm not sure if I will use it or not. The rear will def be locked out.

Good job! Looks like fun. Now I'm lookin' at my H2 boby in a whole new light. Good start for a scaler. |

Very nice! I'm thinking about changing my creeper to a scaler also. Have you had a chance to run it yet? (or has a baby interrupted that?)

I've ran it several times now. I borrowed my esc and rx from my 2.2 creeper to test it out. Everything works great. The only thing that needs some tweaking is the shock setup. The rc4wd shocks are a little too stiff for me. I think i'm going to get some scx-10 shocks, but for now it works just fine and can keep up with my honcho out on the rocks.
