| Custom 4VP Chassie
It's ALIVE!!!!!!!! Custom Designed by me and Lazer cut out of 1/8th in Delrin by - www.pololu.com This turned out better than I thought... thought I didn't use the rear body panels as the dig mount it on the way at the moment. I'll have to tweek the design slightly or leave it as it because it's over all 8 3/8 in long which makes it comp legal just as it sits. Here's all the pannles that showed up in the mail today I used some aluminum tube I found at bell hardware for the braces... I had to cut drill and tap them to make them work... They look kinda rough but they work for now. 78mm top brace x 3, 60mm front brace x 4, 4 3x6mm spacers to step in the nose of the chassie. The Take Down Four bolts on the tranny and she's mounted up... next the shocks and upper links. You use the fourth 60mm brace to suport the fron shocks and give it a little more of a ridged feel. I ended up drilling one hole to mount half the old battery tray so I can have my DIG servo mounted and it actualy worked out really well to hold the reciever and secure the rear of the roof panel for easy access to the eletronics. There are removable doors so you can stuff eletronics or bateries in the chassie however you like to set it up. If you're running the GOAT 2S youll need a 3x6MM spacer on the door to raise it up enough to clear or you can just stick it on the top of the chassie... I'll be putting it on the side once I get some more spacers made. Body Pannels still need painted. Easy Access Same ammount of articulation as before. Thanks guies, once I workout a few kinks in the design and put it through it's paces at the comp this weekend. All together I've got $95 into it with hardware and spacers. The fab shop told me that the higher quantity I order the cheeper it will be per chassie. Well see, if any one knows a shop that can do aluminum lazer cutting I would much rather make them out of 1/8 th alum than delrin. The delrin is real sturdy, I just worry about breaking when it gets cold out.

Not knocking this build, but what does this chassis have to do with the Clinger? To me it has nothing in common with it.

Honestly, I had to call it somthing when I ran the post and clinger is the first word that came to mind... I'm not sure what "The Clinger" is that you're refering to... I'de be intereted to know so I don't look like an idiot. Good Question though. |

I though the same thing team3six... I think the OP just wanted a name and "clinger" sounded good. Anyway, it looks good have you done any roll over testing? looks like it might be fairly easy to get back on it wheels kinda like this... Underground Crawlers Bodiless Chassis Rollover Test |

It flips over really well when you go strait up a wall and backwards... I've not tested it on it's lid yet, I'll be doing that here in a few days after I get my 1.9 back up as I've got to have them both ready for this weekend. Will post a vid of the testing once I do it.

The crawler "acrobatics" as I like to call them work or but not perfect with this chassie. Flipping over backwards and gunning it to flip you're self again works perfect. Starting on your lid... not so good. If you're on flat ground, you can mostly scoot around to an object that will help you flip backover. But so make it more efective I need to take about lower the roof about 1/4 inch in the front and raise the rear just a hair to keep it legal. then it should be able to make the flip just fine. From the first drive in my back yard, it works very well to crawl. Next comp is tomarrow so I'll let you know how it handles when it really matters. |
