So I was going to go with an flm locker for my differentials but when I was up visiting the father I got some great advice. I instead of opening up my axle in order to put together any of these fixes. I went to the LHS and bought a m2 x 6mm screw with the cap end(?) not the flat on but the one so it sticks out a bit from flush. It pushes up against the locker and makes it so it will not move. So now all I have to do is unscrew that screw and swap it for the stock part if I want them unlocked and there is no need to undo the entire axle.

If people want pics I can have them up in a couple days just let me know.

the spider gears wont last long under heavy loads for long,
i would put the flm locker in it now because you will end having to strip the axle later to fit it anyway
just going from full fowards to full revese (ie to save a roll can break them)

i fitted new spider gears in the front axle last month on my sons creeper and they went yesterday at a comp they cost him a few points it was in and out of 3wd and 4wd im fitting the flm in the front today i done the rear two weeks ago and no more slop much stronger and more reliable which is what you want for a comp

Let us know how long that lasts. Then go with FLM!

Hey BRANDO,,,I hope you wont take offense at this but not all of us want to just bolt in new parts. It seems to me that there are five kinds of crawlers out there...

1,,,the guy who buys the base rig and never does anything with it.

2,,,the guy who buys the base rig and every available highend part and installs it and either does well or doesnt. This is the guy who just falls in behind the shepard.

3,,,the guy who buys the base rig and sees what it will do out of the box knowing some things are gonna have to be made or modded or bought to make it better. Some things work some dont. Some times the thing tried gets replaced with a part bought to be installed.

4,,,the guy who buys the base rig does whatever mods need to be done skips some mods and just buys parts for other stuff and never really knows the feeling of beating the system, along with the previous three guys.

5,,,the guy who buys the base rig after asking tons of questions and reading everything he can find on the rig until he knows exactly what mods have to be done and what things have to be replaced. this is the guy who shows up at every comp with a rig he built from scratch and from bits and pieces and purchased parts. he enjoys the challenge of tinkering and toying with the sometimes ball busting parts that cause nothing but headaches until he finally finds the solution.

I know where Im at,,,,,,,,,,,,,Im not a parts purchaser for the most part.. Now there are parts on these things you just cant make on your hobby table with a Dremel like C-hubs and knuckles,,,but when it comes to annoying little things like a differential or link geometry...Ill take the trial and error route any day of the week over buying some part. Its a way of living life,,,not just a daily decision.

Hinged,,I say go for it,,take lots of pics and let us know what you find. or you could just buy the FLM's

None taken at all! After having this rig for quite a while and nothing but time on my hands, ive been through tons of trials and errors, especially with the locker. I was just letting him know what works at a decent price.
