| Brushless Creepin - HELP!!
Just finished assembling my shiny new red Creeper today... Have plans to go 4WS and Brushless - any ideas on what size KV motor would be good? I've read these crawlers have crazy low gearing (as compared to, say, an AX10) so I'm not sure what motor to get... I want to have a max speed of at least an average walking speed (3 mph or so)... Gonna be an outrunner, probably a 28-XX class with a 1/8" shaft... Here's what I've been looking at... http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idproduct=7873 http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idproduct=7703 or maybe this... http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...0kv_(450_class) I have an AX10 with the Rooster 55T combo in it, which is fine, but I built a micro crawler (see CreepyG in the micro section) with a 5gram brushless outrunner in it, and it's UNbelieveable... Lookin to make the same setup, only scaled up... Let me know what you guys think, I've been all over this forum for a week now and can't find much info on motors... Thanks!! |

well i was running a 1050kv outrunner in mine on a 3s lipo , several comments , not enough wheel speed , massive torque ( parts breaking torque) so if you are going down this path i would suggest the 1350 kv or higher |

I'm not sure what the KV raiting is but I'm running the Novak goat 2S system with the 18.5 Motor and it's got tones wheel speed and tourque. Thought I don't recomend it only because, the sensor wire in the ESC end after time wont stay with a good connection so my creeper stops untill I reseat the plug after a good jolt... I'm switching over to a brushed motor for now... probly a fire ball 55t. Personaly I've been eying up the Castle Crations Sidewinder 1/10 or the mamba, they have a tone more customization.

I've got Castle ESC's in things from my scaler up to a Caster Fusion and I love them all. Great products. I've tried a few different brushless options in crawly things (including the 18.5 Goat system) and I'm not totally sold on b/l is good for crawling. However, a CC Sidewinder set to brushed reversing, a CC BEC and a good lathe motor is a combo you won't be disappointed with. |

I'm also interested in turning my creeper b/l. Would either of these motors work?? http://www.greathobbies.com/producti...od_id=EFLM1205 http://www.greathobbies.com/producti..._id=SCOHK22008 Last edited by mastathug0; 07-23-2010 at 11:49 AM. |

Got looking around again for motors, think I found a coulpe I might try out... http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...trunner_2100KV http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idproduct=5246 And finally... http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s..._1350Kv_/_260W Seems the 60A speed controller is pretty popular (ran out of stock today) so I think I'm gonna have to go with the 35A Turnigy version... Don't think I'll ever be pulling the current thru these motors the flight guys see... Should do alright... At the rate I'm goin, this lil' Creeper's only gonna cost me about $200 CDN to get up and runnin... ESC - $30 BL motor - $15 Servo - $8 RX - already have one Creeper - $120 3S lipo - $10 Total......$183 Might have to start a new build thread when all my junk gets here... |

I read nothing but good reviews on this motor (http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s..._1350Kv_/_260W) when used with 3S and a 30A ESC...Normally I don't need full power, only when I get into trouble, and even then I usually don't need full throttle to get out... Do you think I'll need a slightly higher current ESC, or do you think this combo will work...? |

Looks like it's an awful slow motor for 2S.... How's your top speed Brando? Can it keep up to you while you walk at a normal pace...? I'm thinkin I might try a 2000kV or so motor on 3S to start with, then go from there... Gettin 3 different ones, 1350-1850-3200kV which are all around $12 a piece, at that price a guy really can't go wrong! |

Top speed is just about as fast as I can walk. More wheel speed really is ideal, this has got tons of torque and hardly any cogging at all. I would like to have a slightly higher KV. Other than over-all wheel speed I dont have any other complaints. I think the Tacon is a solid motor, and your right, for the price you cant beat them...

Did you ever consider an Outrunner? All the ones I'm looking at are from HobbyKing and are Dirt Cheap! If you ever upgrade without going to 3S, I suggest experimenting with a higher kV Heli motor... I'm dyin' to get mine in the mail...!
