Joywrex's Creeper Build (First RC ever)

After crawling the Rubicon Trail in some Jeeps I decided to build a creeper. (Hey, 1:10 is cheaper than a 1:1 scale...)

Here is a step by step photo series of the entire build thus far:

I CADed up the berg style lockouts and electronics plate. I have a 3d printer at work so if they break it's no problem.

Suggestions/Advice are greatly appreciated. Thanks to everyone in the forums. Otherwise, I would have a stock rig.

Nice looking set up. You might want to move the shock something like this for the front and like this for the rear. Later on grab a set of Double Duece or Paradox foams and a set of white dot rovers. Also grab some Losi 4" rock crawler shocks and Traxxas half shafts with metal yokes, as well as a CC BEC. Almost forgot to say read the T&T thread, alot of good info there.

Welcome to the madness! Tires are a must but love the "DIY" action. Nothing like doing it yourself!

Good advice. I was not as impressed with the new shock setup as I thought I would be. I want to sip these tires and crawl on it a bit before I do any more upgrades. This thing needs some scratches on it! I did order the CC BEC a few days ago. I know its important, but can you explain why? Is it just a safety for the ESC or does it give your servo more constant power and therefore more torque?

i would say if you dont want to replace the stock tires right away then cut all the small lugs off and it will make a huge improvement

but nice :)

venomcrawlerdud 05-17-2011 02:43 PM

great biuld so fare. it might be more better of if you mount the shocks to the lower likes and on the chassie.

looking great, i like the sound of that 3d printer!"thumbsup"

how does that fly sky radio go?, they look pretty darn nice for the price.

The reviews have been really good for it. It has ridiculously good range, not that that matters...

I am happy with it. It even came with a usb cord to connect it to a pc to play games.

The receivers for it are tiny and really cheap too.

I have a CC BEC (is it pronounced "beck" or "b.e.c."?) and will figure out how to install it when I have the time. I see a lot of posts about it making the servo more twitchy. I want to make it removable easily so I will need to find some connector ends.

For now I need to learn to drive and get a few scratches...

Yeah I wasn't too impressed with this erector set style setup. I will try to move them to the lower links.

I am taking a CNC machining class so hopefully I can make some metal parts soon."thumbsup"

Yeah I plan to sipe the tires soon like this: http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/venom-creeper/185684-sipe-stock-tires.html

The tires are sealed right now. Do some people drill holes in them so that they take in air or would that make it too flat?

It's B.E.C. battery eliminator circuit when saying it tho it sounds like beck. Did you get the castle link to program it?

I did not. Am I going to be ok with the stock 5.1v???

You want to up it to 6.0v at least. Depending on your servo you could go to 7.4v.

Yea it will work at 5.1 but your servo will not be at full power. On my old creeper I can it a few times at 5.1 then a friend used his castle link and upped it to 6volts for me. Later on I redid that rig and gave it to my dad with a new bec and a Sidewinder SV2 so I bought the castle link to program the bec and the esc. It's well worth the $20 for it.

it does not make the tires to flat it makes it so that the tires can deflate some to conform to the rocks just like softening a real tire when going wheeling

but sipeing them helps too but cutting off the smaller lugs on the tire makes it so that the lugs can use the whole lug to grip not just the top of it

Hmm, thats a lot of smaller lugs. Does anyone have a picture of them cut off?

Do people drill holes in the actual wheel rim or the tires?

Wicked Klown 05-18-2011 04:55 PM

On mine I drilled the rims, put 4 1/8" holes in each rim.
