this is a short vid of what i have researched and learned. just for mainly newbs. however, i am not quite a newb and it took me a while to figure most of this stuff out. Link geometry basics for crawling - YouTube |

That's some good schooling their Brandon! I'm finding though, that as I get lighter my rig is behaving better and more predictable with the upper links mounted lower at the chassis, which creates, as you said, more sucked down approach. I am also finding that by spacing out my shocks from the chassis has improved the sidehilling ability by keeping the wheel from lifting! I have to give a bunch of credit to Shane and Ashton for helping me with this! Now, this is all based on my BJV4, so obviously it depends on your chassis, driving style, weight.....etc. It boils down to becoming familiar with your own rig, then understanding how the link geometry works and applying what behaviors your like best into the rig with the link geometry. |

Much agreed Thommy! My main purpose is to help give people a starting point. I was somewhat lost web I started, and a guy on another thread was asking me about all that stuff so I made it to help people who aren't sure about anything. I didn't even get into shocks because there is o so much that changes with the slightest adjustment. And lighter rig definitely can be adjusted differently, but like I said, starting point. Thommy I hope I remember how to drive Saturday!!! |

I think this was a great vid! I never found a good basic rundown of link geometry when I was setting up my rigs, so I always felt like I was just blindly changing thing hoping to nail something that worked! Lots of guys talked about this stuff way over my head to where I could not understand, so you vid gives a simple perspective on what links are doing, and that's great!!! I wish I could have seen this video about a 1 1/2 years ago! |

If I may comment, keeping your informative geometry video thread on topic could I ask your opinion on link adjustments on a Wraith? The link adjustments are limited, Hypothetically commenting I can lower the upper links but the drive shaft might have a clearance issue with the link plus more angle when rotating. If done, would it add control to the front end being propped up at an obstacle and bouncy at speed in principle aside from factors like weight, shocks, tires,...? If you overdrive the front axle then it will act more with geometry changes. If you have stock axle gears it will show less differences. If you over drive the front and it raises te front a lil I would think it would act better. Lots of people argue for neutral link setup so it just goes with the flow and doesn't try to raise or lower. And like Thommy was saying, some lighter rigs can be successful with squat setup in the front on a Moa. For your wraith it may not make as much of a difference. Just change one thing them try it as change another thing ten try it. I can usually not see what effects multiple changes have because I am insure what change had which result. |
