| RadioShack ZIPZAP Monstertruck- Heavily modified! Quote:
I modified my zipzap when they first came out. Added the digital proportional steering gear reduction box of the newer zipzap cars. ($26 for the motor, gearbox and the blue gear from the drive of the car to be added to the monsters gearing) It was way better after I shimmed the pinion gears against the ring gear. The gear reduction by adding the blue gear (from the car) between the motor and the first green gear on the truck. After all my mods its way too much fun to play with. But I never made mine articulate like that. That kicks *** man, I was thinkin about doin that but never did. I have to give you props for all you have done there, lengthening the wheelbase looks like the ticket! What are the tires you are running off of? Did you add a third cell? What are you doing for gear reduction if any? I don't see the motor being in the stock pos. Is that just a larger motor on the stock steering setup with the spring taken out? Again, Nice job man I like it!

I'm running 1/18 scale polaris quad rear tires siped and weighted in the front. The wheelbase has been lenghthened by cutting the driveshaft in half and sleeving it with brass tubing. Then the lenghthened driveshaft is sleeved with a section of antenna tube from the controller. This allows it to articulate once you cut the top half of the chassis in half. I jb welded an x mod bearing in front of the rear pinion as this is where the most stress is applied now. It still blows apart on me tho. I need a better way to eliminate rear axle steer. I could use links but then I would have to add u joints to the driveshaft. The third cell is actually the batt. from the zzse I robbed for its steering servo. I'm running the mt pack and the se pack in parallel to increase run times. The voltage matches in the 2 packs so it makes it easier than a tricell or quadcell. I'm running the zzse steering servo with the pot removed and a red se motor direct to the final drive gear on the axle. Gives it plenty of torque but the main reason was to lower the cg. In the pics I'm running a yellow mt motor with the stock setup and the spring removed. As of now I added 2 more gears to the steering box and run the stock steering motor. This cuts down on weight lowers the cg and has more steering torque than using the yellow mt motor. It works really good for it's size and is much more of an investment in time and imagination than $$. Articulation mod http://bitpimps.lixlink.com/pages/ph...pic.php?t=6991 Steering mod http://bitpimps.lixlink.com/pages/ph...pic.php?t=8800 These two are probably the trickiest of the mods but reap the most benefit, so if anybody has these sitting around somewhere get 'em out and start hacking 'em up. You'll be suprised how much fun they can be.
