Kaetwo's Tekin FX-R Review...

Ive been running mine for about two weeks now. Absolutely love it. After reading this thread Im glad to hear I can run 3S LiPos without a problem. Thanks Tekin!

I Will be buying another one for my next rig. Finding this thread was the BEST thing to happen to my crawler to date. I personally like the posts but think the slots could be a bit wider, say the size of Deans Wet Noddle wire.

Yes it can, on both 2 and 3s lipo from my usage.

That is good to hear. We expected it would be fine since you are not on throttle all the time like a TC application, but low throttle is one of the hardest things for a speedo to deal with. It is nice to verify with actual users that all is good. Do you see much heat?

The solder post slots are really to hold solder and not for putting the wire into. It helps keep the solder from running down the posts if you solder in the veritcal position, which we do not recommed but we know people still do it. We like them in a horizontal position during soldering for a good flowed joint and avoid cold solder joints. With 55t motors you could use 16awg with no concerns and that will fit.

I see that the website now states that the FX-R and FX-R Pro's are now "3S Lipo 35T+ Safe" "thumbsup"

That will ease the minds of a lot of guys on the bubble on whether to buy one of these little gems.

I got a chance to talk to the Tekin " Family" at the Montana scale Nats this weekend and they brought out some cool new stuff and answered a slew of tech questions and even helped me set up my new FX-R at the last minute before the 2.2 comp started!"thumbsup""thumbsup" I can tell you this... They mean business!! I love this esc and WILL be getting others!!"thumbsup"

Thanks to all the Tekin reps!!! This is the kind of support the crawler community likes.... Keep up the great work guys... And girls;-)

We were STOKED to see our FX-r units in rigs at the Nats and wow, what an awesome group of people to be around!

We're all about the rc communtiy man! It was a fun weekend, I can't wait for next year!

Great review, much needed info. Saved me from making continous threads. I love this search engine. Now someone do one on the R1 Pro and a Outrunner set up! "thumbsup"

2 of our team crawler drivers should be testing the FxR with beefed BEC this week. We will see how it works.

It should not increase the price of the FxR very much. It does require that we put it in a FxRpro case so we have the extra room. We will also make some software changes specific to what the crawler need like better resolution on the drag brake adjustments and low throttle... and a new cool sticker that says Crawler on it

Do we need to also consider making an RTR version with wires soldered on to the pcb no solder posts and cap preinstalled?

Tekin Prez
I'll buy the RTR version, I can solder but prefer the leads already attached. any idea on when/if it'll be available

I'm really looking forward to the upgraded version of the FX-R becoming available asap! I'm also looking forward to the RTR version for the same reasons as Ixtab mentioned previously (although I don't solder all that well myself.) My LHS tech does my more critical soldering since he is very experienced with it, however they do charge for that service. I will purchase the RTR version as soon as it becomes available! Thanks very much Tekin for listening, for the crawler upgrades and for the RTR version! These will do VERY well for you, I'm sure!!

I too am curious as to the probable ETA on these units.

Thanks very much again.

Does anyone run a castle bec with theres? I have one about to install it and it says on the package of the bec to remove the red wire from the esc. Do you have to do that?

yes, and what sucks is you have to put it back to use the hotwire. Works fine though

Just use a really short (3") servo extension and cut the red wire on that, instead of removing the wire from the speed control's plug.
