I am putting a recoil start on one of my friends t maxx and I got everything on there the way it says on the web, but when i mount it on and pull it it wont recoil back in....any ideas of what I may be doing wrong?

Does the engine try to start when you pull it out? Kinda sounds like the one-way bearing is installed backwards...

No when I pull it out the rope wont go back in and I have to take the whole starter back off to get it to go back in. I put the one way bearing in with the writing on it facing the engine like it said on the web...I just got done taken it all back apart and cleaning everything and lubing and still nothing...Im stumped

Well im almost positive I have it in right and now it just wont pull out at all. Could it possibly be stuck at TDC? Btw it hasnt been ran in over a year.

that could be the problem right there. after sitting that long the oneway bearing might be a little gummed up and not working right. take it out and soak it in wd 40 for a while maybe over night that should help some. and it might not pull out at all now cause the engine could be flooded. if it is hard to pull don't force it i've ruined a few pull starts that way.

allright thinks for the help man...this is why is like to stick with electric...I love driving nitros but I dont really like workin on them.

yeah like half a tank...btw this is a friends im not that stupid...it was his first real rc.

Actually what it sounds like is the starter itself is fubared. If you pull out the glow plug and pull the starter, does the piston move and such?

If when you pull the starter, and the cord doesn't rewind itself then that has nothin to do with if the motor will start or not. Basically, you can either pull out the starter, pull the cord spool off, and re-do the spring on the inside or buy a new starter. In all honestly, I'd buy a new starter. The pulls starts for the .15/2.5 aren't that expensive (2.5 will work on the 2.5r and 3.3).

I've rebuilt a .15 starter, and I will rather buy a new starter than repair one. It's a pita to rebuild those.
