Well I had the money for a Spflg XD Sub Compact, but spent it on RC's...... I still need another handgun, but the budget just went lower...

My dad told me about the Hi-Points.. Looks to be a great deal... Anyone have one here?

Not the best looking handgun, but not to bad for 4106 bucks is the cheapest I found online. With a laser too.

Hands down the biggest POS pistol you can get! STAY AWAY FROM THEM! I would trust a rock more than one of them! They really are crap, throw away guns! What is your budget?

Well My budget just depends on how much I want to save and take away from my Crawlers RC and 1:1....

Thanks Kenny, I couldn't find to much neg feedback on them, but at work alot of sites are blocked. I'll just save up for the Spgfld XD Sub Compact again... We shot 9mm Sigs at work, but just to costly for me. And they won't let me take the HK MP5 home with me... Not sure why...:)

Don't be afraid to buy used also! Guns are not like cars, they last a long time if taken care of! Also with you being LE you can buy straight from Glock from their factory in Ga. Your cost on a NIP Glock in about $380 out the door! That is on most models that they make!!!! Look into that! They take care of LE and allow you to go straight to them, no tax also"thumbsup" Saves you over $200! All you need is a letter head from your Capt. saying you work for him;-)

A buddy of mine has one and yes they are pretty much throw away guns. They don't even come apart to clean. You can't pull the slide off or barrel. They are ugly too lol but I think Glocks are ugly too but most people don't buy guns for looks at least the shouldn't. Its fairly accurate though for what it is. I was really surprised. It shoots pretty well too not a lot of stovepipes until it gets dirty. IMO save up for the XD. I have an XD 40 servoce model 4 inch barrel and love this thing. Very accurate but save up the money and get it with night sites installed from the factory. The guy at the gun shop tried to talk me into them and I didn't wanna spend the extra money. Wish i would have got them now. The reason is though the sites are near to impossible to take out without cutting them out. Those things are in there good. My gun dealer has been a gunsmith for 20 years and tried everything on one to get the sites out. He froze it heated it used hammers and chisels but had to cut them out. Its better to get them installed just so you don't risk damaging the gun trying to install them. Just something to think about. Also the XD's you get all the XD gear. And the subcompacts are sweet because they come with the short mags and the full capacity mags. And if you get a 40 it will hold 17 rounds of 9mm in the full cap mag and a conversion barrel is around 160 so you got a good home defense/ carry pitol as well as something you can swap a barrel out in 15 seconds and shoot all day and not spend hundreds of bucks on ammo. Just some things to think about. Can't go wrong with an XD or a Glock. But I would stay away from the Highpoint when it comes to gun you get what you pay for for sure.

I had a Clock model 22, And hated it. But I've been eyeing this.. but the XD has a light attachment thats small. Which is a big bonus for me.

My wife got her fathers pistol when he past away...its a VERY old hi point 9mm...that thing scares me.It looks like it would fall apart in my hands.I dont know much about guns..my buddy does tho,and he says the same thing..they are throw aways..he was pretty leary about her shooting it

Ill post a pic later when she isnt around

Hipoints are teh biggest POS firearm out there. I had a HiPoint 9mm as my first handgun. Went to shoot it at the range, 3rd round jammed. Went for a 2nd clip, 6th round jammed. Tried with another one, and the slide cracked.

You can find a decent used handgun for >$500. Here's my next one I'm lookin at.

I'm in the same boat as you, looking for a good gun on a budget.THe only one that I have been able to hold is the XD 40 sub.Really nice, fit my hand well. All the shops around here are out of any carry type guns except for revolvers.I was also looking at the Hi Points, found a shop a little ways away that has a 9mm.I'm going there hopefully next weekend. I have read up on them and really couldn't find too many neg reviews.I know everyone hates them but why, they jam occasionally. From that I've read, a good cleaning and oiling plus the right ammo will solve the problem.I have read reviews on several guns including the XD 40 sub and there were reoprts of malfunctions on every one including the XD.I have asked shop owners why they don't like them and all I get is that they are a cheap POS.Asked why and they just said they were a POS with no reason.Plus their big complaint seemed to be that they had horrible resale value.SO I am still considering one but will probably get something else i just want to see one in person.

My cousin has a high point and it is always messing up!! I have had a bunch of different 40's. Sold all of them but the springfields. The sub compact is still by far my favorite. Shoots great, rarely jams mostly with cheap reloads that i use for practice. The good ammo never has let me down! I feel its a great conceal carry/ multi pupose gun."thumbsup"

X2 just a step above a Kaltec.

Glock is a great gun for the money and if you are LE then you will get a good discount."thumbsup"
My first pistol was a Glock 19 9mm and I love it to death. Though if I had the cash I would get a Sig or a Kimber, my next pistol will be a 1911 GI issue black, basic, simple, scary.;-)
A Springfield 1911 GI can be had for as little as $700.

And I agree as well, buying used is awesome. If you do your home work you can get a great gun for a good price."thumbsup"

Well,I'll play devils advocate here.

I bought a Hi Point 45 a while back, shoots good. I'll agree,it's a inexpensive gun and can't be compared to a "high dollar" gun. You do get what you pay for. Mainly,I bought mine to throw under the seat of my Toyota when trail riding or in a bag if we go ride four wheelers somewhere. I can't see spending big money on a gun that may or may not get kicked around the floorboard and maybe dropped in a mud hole in the woods. The guns I have that have any value to them stay clean and put up until I need/want to shoot them.

There is a guy we ride with that carries a Hi Point 9mm when we ride. He's owned it for a couple years now. He's literally dropped in in mud holes, left it outside in the rain and it's been dropped several times while going down the trail. Still works like a champ. He does carry it empty and the clip not in the gun if your wondering.

i wouldn't hit you in the ass with a H-Point. you need reasons? they are made of crappy steal, piss poor tolerances. can't say this enough, if you guys are looking for a CARRY WEAPON why skimp? trust your life, kids, wife or somebody else's life on a piece of crap? i wouldn't and don't. save the extra money and buy quality even if it used.

And you can do the exact same thing with a Glock, XD, Sig, ect......difference being that the better guns will still work jammed up with mud and dirt.....

....at 4 times the price.....probably 6 times the price that I paid for mine.;-)

I've put about 15-20 boxes of shells through mine without the first problem. Until it acts up or quits working,I'll keep shooting it.

I ain't saying they are a top quality gun in the least.

I'll just save up for the Spgfld XD Sub Compact again...

I own a 9mm SC and a .40 SC, you will love it!

Let me correct you, it's a cheap (design, materials, manufacturing quality) pistol, and can't be compared to a safe pistol...

trust your life, kids, wife or somebody else's life on a piece of crap? i wouldn't and don't. save the extra money and buy quality even if it used.

X2, don't forget about your hand's safety...

Don't stand next to me at the range.

Not arguing the point with ya much, but things I think about are what if it decides to "act up or quit working" right at the time you need it the most. I realize this can happen with any firearm, but personally I would rather trust my security to a brand that's known for never messing up.

That being said, I do own a Hi-Point 9mm rifle, and that's a cheap rifle everyone can play around with, that is accurate and never fails. Before I got it, I couldn't stand any 9mm, but I've run through about 1k rounds with it and can easily hit bottle caps every shot at around 50 yards. To me it has been just as much fun to shoot as my CX4 that was much higher priced, even though it is much uglier. From everything I've ever seen about Hi-Point handguns though I will never own one.

High Points are purely a POS totally sorry Raptorman but I have to disagree. Even a Kel-Tec is more reliable I have owned both. The High Point was off target and fell apart literally. The Kel-Tecs are decent for their price. They are solid shooters.

I agree that buying used is a good option in keeping the cost down. I bought a used Sig 40/357 for $500. with interchangeable barrels, which allow you to shoot either bullet. JIA and I shot it at Augusta using the 40 cal. It shoots very well. I highly recommend a used SIG at the $500. price line."thumbsup"
