Pete from Houston
Quarry Creeper
I still have most of the Hot Wheels and Matchbox toys from when I was a kid, including a bunch of Lesney (British) Matchboxes. I started collecting variations of my childhood toys about 10 years ago. My wife and daughter love searching for variations and Treasure Hunts as much as I do...my daughter found her first Super Treasure Hunt last week...she was really excited!
I just went to my first diecast club meeting in Houston a few months ago and I think they ruined it for me. There was no passion in them, just profit and possessions. Every single Treasure Hunt I have has a story about where we found it. Those people buy the stuff from other collectors or online...where's the fun in that? I tried to buy a couple of variations from one guy and he spent 10 minutes going through Zarnock books trying to decide on a price. In the end, I paid $7 for 4 cars...I was ready to give him $10 on the spot before he started "researching". I almost told the guy nevermind when he tracked me down on the other side of the room.
All my stuff is boxed up for now until I can find a nice enclosed display case to put them in.
