Losi Xcelorin Sensored ESC/Motor Combo for the MRC!

my brother just ordered this losi system & I've got the goose, can't wait to compare the two side by side!

Make sure you guys swap with each other to get a full feel for which is best or what parts are best for each. I will eagerly be waiting for the comparison. I might go this route with my daughters scaler. Then i could side by side the MTM and Sidewinder micro against it but the scale rig would do worse crawling.

will do, for sure"thumbsup"

For the people who are running this system. Can one of you please tell me the length of the sensor wires, also motor leads and esc leads?

Room is tight in these.

So I just jumped on the Xcelorin bandwagon.. Should be here next week..

For comparison I'm currently running the CC Sidewinder Micro with the HH 22t motor running a 12t pinion.. The motor before that was a Trinity Mini Cobalt 18t with a 10t pinion. This was a super fast motor with just enough torque. The HH doesn't have the wheel speed of the Trinity but it does have a little more torque

My local Losi guy tells me that most guys are running a 15t pinion on the Xcelorin package..

If all works out I should be able to run the Losi combo in next weeks comp.. I'll update the thread with my findings...

Hello,

Just took mine out of the box and measured the wires:

- Sensor wire is about 110mm
- Motor wires from esc to connector is about 115mm
- Motor wires from motor to connector is about 50mm
- Total length of motor wire is 165mm

JKWRANGLER08 I can't wait to get your opinion because I am down to Micro Sidewinder + HH mini torque master vs. the Losi Excelerion package. Can't wait to hear your thughts so I can order one of them."thumbsup"

Cheers!

I am installing my xcelorin system in place of stock motor and esc. The shaft on my stock motor is longer than the xcelorin shaft. Has anyone ran into this. It is so short that you have nothing to tighten the set screw on. I called losi tech and this confused them, but they are sending me out a 4 pack of the right pinions for free so I can't complain. In an prev post someone said they were using a 15 tooth pinion. Is that about right to start with

There is enough room to use a stock pinion, but its tight. I believe I had to install my pinion before installing my motor.

These pinions from the Mini-T are wider and mesh nicely with the spur. I'm running my mini Xcelorin system geared 20/58. It's fast

hope your still gonna give us the side by side . I think I cant wait no more Im just gonna take the plunge and by the system . No one has had anything bad to say about it yet except at first we had the skeptical goose lovers . But I expected that, no one wants to see a better system come out after your investment in some other "poop drag brake system" :lmao:

Thats why someone would try out another brushless system if they already have one . cause it might be better .DUH

That is the set the are sending. I talked to them on monday and I hope there here 2 day. Thanks

Okay.. got the Xcelorin installed today.. I bought it off RCC from a guy for $105 shipped. It came with a Losi pinion set that has 13/14/15/16 in it.. Boy do they have tiny set screws!!!

I guess I should give you my setup first.
Kamikazi Kustoms Mini MRC chassis
Hobico CS-170 Servo (333 oz)
CC BEC running the servo only at 6vdc
Losi Alum Beadlocks (2 3/4 oz front / 0 oz rear)
HB rovers (stock losi foam front/Rover foam rear)
Hot Racing Aluminum Shocks with 30wt oil limited 1/4"
Metal locker (F/C/R)
Losi CVD's in front
RC4WD Punisher Driveshafts
Losi Alum C's and knuckles
Hot Racing rear axle lock-outs
Delrin straight lower links
Metal trany gears
HR Metal 61t spur gear

I really like Xcelorin setup.. But there are some things I liked better about my original CC micro and HH 22t motor..

Here's the Pro and Cons as I see it..

Pro's CC Micro sidewinder/HH 22t brushed w/12t pinion
infinite adjustability of the ESC settings and throttle curves. (big plus)
small size and low weight of the ESC
very smooth low end with the HH
great wheel speed
good enough in torque dept to break stock parts. "thumbsup"
Lower price

Con's CC Micro sidewinder/HH
Have to purchase S/W and cable to program.
Can purchase a field programmer now
Motor is brushed.. (Not a big deal to me)

Pro's Losi Xcelorin ESC with brushless motor and 15t pinion
Comes with S/W, cable and a quick program card.
Quick program card can set about everything you can from the I/F. So this will give you some great field programming..

good low speed response to radio input. (With the CC I had to play with the throttle curves to kind of slow the response down. This setup has about the same response as my CC after playing with the curves)

same wheel speed
more torque
better drag brake. (stood it on it's nose on a downhill that CC would slowly creep down)

Con's Losi Xcelorin combo
More $'s than the CC/HH

Size. The ESC is bigger and the motor is longer. This could be an issue for some chassis's.

Not as much adjustability of the ESC as the CC through the I/F.
No adjustment to the throttle curves (tab is grayed out on the I/F)

There is a VERY SMALL amount of cogging if you are moving at the lowest speed possible. Not a big deal, but it is there

Going really slow on downhill sections is a little tougher. With the CC I can just barely creep downhill if I want. With the Losi it's either locked or moving. and it's moving a little faster than I'm used to.

All in all I think it's a great package.. I'll play with the program some and hopefully Losi will some day let you play with the throttle curves as I really liked that on the CC combo.. I'm a go slow kind of driver and the stock Losi is about as good as the CC was after fiddling.. It'll take some getting used to the downhill speed.. Might play with the drag brake some and see how it reacts..

Bottom line is that it has about the same wheel but way more torque as the CC/HH combo.. There are some little things to get used to but overall I'm happy. I'm really happy that I didn't have to pay $130 for it, but I would have and would still be happy with it..

If your budget doesn't have that kind of dough in it.. Go with the CC/HH combo for less.. You won't be sorry..

I'll update the thread with my impressions after Saturday's comp...

gear it up jkwrangler08. its still got enough torque to snap stuff with a 18 tooth pinion and its fast as hell with NO heat issues. i broke 2 stampede shafts this past weekend with mine

OK weird question but would you get more run time with this thing or less? I am running a stock battery for now but i want to jump to this setup.
