Losi Xcelorin Sensored ESC/Motor Combo for the MRC!

Thanks for all the hints.. I'll give them both a shot..

I always turn the radio on first, then the ESC.. I've got one car that if I don't, it'll take off on it's own  So it's just become habit for me..

With the CC sidewinder micro and HH 22t motor the steering servo would just twitch when I turn it on.. No changes other than Losi combo.. So I got no idea what's up with it...

As far as an external BEC.. I don't have any spec's on the CS-170 but I know it draws a lot of juice.. I had it on my 2.2 with a HH torquemaster ESC and it has a 5 amp internal BEC.. The CS-170 brought it to it's knees.. The truck would hardly move at all.. Ran the external CC BEC powering only the servo and all was well.. Also noticed my run times dropped some when I started running the servo.. When I swapped the CS-170 into my mini I just wired it the same.. I have the BEC wired into the battery plug so when I connect the battery, the BEC powers up. but I still make sure the radio is on before I plug in the battery..

I supposed I could pull the servo wire when I power it up, but I'd really like to know what's causing it...

Thanks!! I tried to rebind and that did nothing. I've got another BEC sitting in my parts bin that I'll solder in this weekend.

OK here is my first impressions on the Losi brushless compared to my 33t MTM and Sidewinder micro.

I LOVE THIS LOSI SETUP!!

It has a awesome drag brake at 100% where the Sidewinder had to be set to 212% or something crazy like that. Fast even with the stock MRC pinion (getting a 15 and 16 to try). I agree that the throttle profile and brake profile being blanked out on the losi sucks, I would like to modify it some (<<READ THIS LOSI PLEASE). The throttle control is better in the losi system, I can creep ultra slow with the Losi which is a major bonus. Simple to use the software from the computer to modify the ESC similar to the Sidewinder. For the price (70 + 30 (MTM motor) + 20 + 17) for the Sidewinder to run properly counting the castle link and BEC and only 130 for the losi to be setup its kinda pointless to stay brushed and go with a Sidewinder unless you are retaining the stock motor or a 10 dollar motor. Speaking of BEC i am not running one with the losi system and it was a must with the Sidewinder. No drop in power at full throttle and full turn.

I do want to try the Goose system just to say i have but the wife realized $400 was spent in the past 2 weeks so it looks like i will stick to this and my daughter will stay on the 33t MTM and Sidewinder setup.

Overall i couldnt be happier with what i have now Best setup in all that i have tried. Oh and those guys looking to upgrade radio gear I ran my MRC out about 70 YARDS with me new DX3E and i only stopped cause i couldnt see where it was going next.

Mine should be here tomorrow from Horizon.
Thanks to all of you whio have chimed in on this thread. JK's in depth comparison was the tipping point for me."thumbsup"

Have there been any updates since the side by side comparison on the Losi B-less combo vs. Novak and the Goose? Just curious

hope your still gonna give us the side by side . I think I cant wait no more Im just gonna take the plunge and by the system . No one has had anything bad to say about it yet except at first we had the skeptical goose lovers . But I expected that, no one wants to see a better system come out after your investment in some other "poop drag brake system" :lmao:

Thats why someone would try out another brushless system if they already have one . cause it might be better .DUH

:oops:sorry for not getting to this sooner, been busy & still haven't got to compare the two systems like id like to. i have drove the losi setup (for about 20 min.) & i am very impressed w/it! excellent slow speed crawlability & a very good drag brake. i was wanting to run both car's w/the same gearing & matching batteries to check wheel speed (top end) but have not had the chance. I'm thinkin the losi system does have a lil more torque than the mongoose as when you punch it, it really jumps hard!!!"thumbsup" the losi setup also runs good w/a 3s (no heat issues) I'm having problems w/the mongoose on 3s:evil:

all in all id love to own the losi system, but until the goose is cooked (pun intended!!!:lmao:) ill keep runnin it & i don't want to run the same thing my brother's runnin, were just competitive like that:mrgreen:

There is enough room to use a stock pinion, but its tight. I believe I had to install my pinion before installing my motor.

These pinions from the Mini-T are wider and mesh nicely with the spur. I'm running my mini Xcelorin system geared 20/58. It's fast

I ordered the LOSB1263 pinion pack, accidently ordered 2 actually. I can't get any of the 8 pinions to slide onto the shaft past the set screw hole. Do people need to drill these pinions out or something? No noticeable bur on rhe shaft.
Also, I tried tapping it lightly against my kneecap to get them to slide on, what are the chances I damaged the motor by doing that? I've never been inside a BL motor before but I hear they have sensor boards. I'm hoping I wasn't jamming the rotor against it.
Thanks.

These pinions should be a direct replacement.

Do you have a stock pinion or another motor to test fit?

Also, this might be a dumb question, but have you removed the tiny set screws from the pinions?

Man, you scared the hell out of me when you mentioned set screws! LOL That's not it, just doublechecked.:ror:
But, speaking of set screws, this rig came with a slider motor, and I don't see one on it's pinion. Are the slider pinions usually molded to the shaft? It's plastic, I'm gonne try to pry it off.

Yeah, can't test fit it on the slider. There are knurls for rhe pressed on the plastic pinion I just ruined. What's the ID supposed to be? Mebne I can get a set of calipers in it. What's the correct shaft OD?

2mm shaft. I would try to see if there are burrs around the set screw hole on the pinion? my aftermarket gives me issues.

since the Losi BL motor i got is like this i assume all are but there is a flat all the way down the shaft so if its not snug it should still be ok. Man i love this setup more and more. I need to tighten the slipper maybe but i am scared to explode stuff especially after the wife seen the money i have spent on this rig in the past couple weeks.

Are these pinions ok to use with the hot racing aluminum spur? Big difference in tooth size, feels rough when I set the mesh.
JOMJ87, it's important for a snug fit on the shaft. The set screw will push the shaft to the oppsite side of the pinion bore. If there is too much play, then it will have a wobble as it spins, and your mesh will open and close once per revolution.
I just opened mine up with the closest size bit I had in hand, and I think it's too sloppy to use now. The bore was .002 undersize to the shaft, after drilling, it's now .012 oversize and I think it's fawked. It has too much wobble.
