Ittybitty's BJV4 XR10

I considered trying to shrink them down, but what kept me from doing it is that I might hang on to them and build a super later on with them OR I might sell them to pay for what I go with next. On that note I can't decide whether I should go with the tried and true FXR's or give the Mamba Micro's a chance. Ol gravy seems to be having good luck with his.

Yeah thats why I can't decide. I'll most likely end up with FXR's especially since I'm not fond of removing the cases and shrink wrapping and without doing this the Micro's are just about the same size as the FXR...with the exception of the ginormous capacitor on the FXR.

The next question is do I want to hang on to the BRXL's for a super build?!?!?!? I guess I could hang on to one of them and use a punk with the super. I'm not a twin stick guy so one esc and a punk would probably do what I want with the super.

Well I finally got to run a comp with the XR last weekend at the ETRC season opener at the Ocoee River in TN. It was a great day with absolutely perfect weather. We had a pretty good crowd too. Unfortunately I was thrown off really quick when "something" began to fail in the front axle in the middle of a pretty hard front dig situation. I didn't finish any of the courses, and really didn't accomplish anything extraordinary, but definitely enjoyed it! After my attempt on the first course I tore the front axle down and found that two of the Avid flanged bearings had failed leading to the failure of the transfer gear. I cleaned the bits up and installed new Avid bearings and slapped it back together with the broken gear (missing 5 teeth out of 12) to see what else I could break but hoping for the best. To my amazement and several others it ran without any issues...even during front digs!!!! I still wasn't able to finish the last two courses...they were tough!! I did manage to come out 9th despite all this though. That should really tell ya how tough the courses were.

In any case I will be doing the 10mm bearing upgrade tomorrow since I already have them and the avid 9mm bearings are on backorder. I'll try to remember to take pics. The rest of my Ti links should show up tomorrow along with some VP 600 hubs that I'm gonna put on the rear to even up the width difference front to rear. I've got a few of the HR CNC steel transfer gears on the way and hope they will make it by Friday. I might be placing an order for some other goodies tomorrow as well as long as they can arrive by Friday as well...so we'll just wait and see.

I'm itching to get the BJV4 put together and start learning to drive it!

I was running the Avid 5x8 flanged rubber seal style. I forgot to say that the five teeth that broke were split up with three in one spot and two in another on the opposite side so that leaves 3 and 4 teeth between the gaps...I really wish I had video of it on the last two courses...hell I ran two more 1300 packs through it without one problem. just further confirmation that with good solid bearings/bushings there shouldn't be much of an issue with the gears in these axles.

Ready to see some progress on your BJ4.

Your wish is granted...

I completed the 10mm mod on the rear axle last night and am waiting on some replacement transfer gears from JPCustomRCs and then I'll do the same on the front. It really wasn't that difficult. I had to clearance the plastic upper link mount where it mates to the motor plate since the 10mm bearings are 4mm wide. The screw that attaches the motor plate to the upper link mount had to be trimmed so that the hole for the middle bearing was round. The last thing that had to be done was to add a standard 3mm washer between the motor plate and the motor. DONE...and BEEF!!

Edit...I forgot to mention that I used a 25/64" drill bit which converts to a 9.921875mm bit...pretty close and only required a little filing around the edges to make a snug fit.

Then I started working on the rear lower links since they finally showed up. After studying a lot of pictures and then mocking things up I bit the bullet and went at it...turned out pretty good and just clamped the links in my bench vise and used a wrench to bend them. I might take a pic of this later on the other links.

I used the plastic pivot balls included with the kit in the upper shock mounts at the chassis along with a 4mm spacer between the ball and chassis plate.

I hope to finish all the links tonight and have a roller waiting on some electronics!

Well keep your fingers crossed that everyone that's shipping stuff has kept up their end of the deal...otherwise it'll be the plain old XR10...ha...plain

Quick update...I've got a roller tonight. The front lower links took a good bit of time to get right. I'm not sure they're exactly how I'll want them. I'd like the rod ends at the chassis side to be a little straighter but I've cycled the suspension quite a few times watching everything and i dont believe anything is binding at all.

I'm also not sure about these plastic pivot balls. I think I need to find a washer with a 3mm hole but a little larger than the smaller side of the ball so the shocks dont try to slide off of them. I'm still waiting on the wider VP hubs, longer robitronics servo arm, and replacement transfer gear for the front.
