Tommy R's TTC Build - "Big Oly"

Look for a 4pl. It will give you most of the Pk functions but alot less.

I was going to say the same thing. "thumbsup"

I use a 4pk there sweet. But last week I tried this 4pl. It's nice and priced really good. Has almost every thing you need.

receivers are small also

4PL it is! I didn't even know a "budget" version of the 4PK even existed! Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go spend more money.....

What about a dual pole/dual throw switch to kill and transfer power & signal at the same time?

Well no not really because as soon as you send a signal to the winch you would come off neutral and the servo would trim left or right based on the winch usage. At least that is how I see it.

Tommy read the 4PL manual just to double check you will want programmable trim steps on the 4th channel to have your steering as Tim has described with the stepped control. Looks to me like you would want rear steer on the 3rd channel.

If you are looking to keep costs down look for the R603 receivers on the Onroad forums. They are 3 channel but all you need for a non C3 truck.

One thing I didn't like on the 4pl was the channel control display. I was using a dual esc Bully.

When you hit the botton for your stall it did not show the % you where at on the screen.

4pk says the percent like "80% example"

So on my rear steer on my jeep I have it set up in 20% increments.

That gives me 5 positions each way. I really like that I can see the 0% to know I am centered.

It's hard to tell just by driven. There is a bar that will show up on the screen. But not the % number.

.....on my hotrod...........:flipoff:

Smart ass! Check the HAMB. I posted some Round Up pics. ;-)

Aaaaannnnnyway, back on topic! So it's official. The 4PL is arriving today. My DX3R and 3 receivers are up for sale. Since I'm adding rear steer, I decided I would make a new wiring diagram. It helps me keep my sanity when wiring this thing!

I also decided that the rear steer servo and winch servo will only see 6v. I just don't want to push them too hard. But this begs the question.... Can I get rid of that 6v BEC and just run them off the Holmes ESC since it can provide 5 amps and 6v? I'd love to remove that BEC from this truck! And FYI, the LEDs get power via the unused power leads for the steering servo in the receiver.

Option 1: Two BECs

Option 2: One BEC

I have been running a 5645 rear steer servo and 5995 steering servo on Peanut off the BR-XL bec with no problems at all. Running 3S and a 21T HHH.

I recently switched Guido to run the 5955 steering servo and Quicksand winch (5995 servo) off the BR-XL bec. No issues so far.

Another suggestion, if you tap the negative wire of the bec into the negative side of the first battery (instead of after they are in series) the BEC won't have to convert 14.4V down to 7.4V and it will give you more amperage draw capability.

Thanks for all the info, Chris! That's great to hear I should be fine to remove one of the BECs......and more importantly clean up my wiring! I have not thought about the added amperage capacity by putting 7.4v through the BEC versus 14.8v. I'm not sure if the amp draw is something I need to be worried about, but I'll definitely consider your recommendation. It would make the wiring more complicated than it would seem so I just need to weigh out the pros/cons.

Yeah, mine was easy to wire because of the swith I had between the batteries.

Hey folks,

Nominations have started for the Montana Scale Nationals TTC event and I really want to make it in with Big Oly! As soon as voting is open (May 2nd, I believe), I'll be asking for your vote and will provide a link to do so. Any and all support will be very much appreciated!!

Thanks, everyone! :)
Tommy

Count with mine!"thumbsup"

Thanks, man! "thumbsup"

I don't have any pics (yet), but I've been a busy little camper. I reconfigured the rear of the chassis to mount a servo (Hitec 5955) and I installed some Axial C's, Vanquish high steer knuckles, and for the moment I've got some stock dogbones installed. I did a test with the new radio (4PL) and everything looks like it'll work out nicely. No pics 'cause frankly the brazing did a number to the paint and I'm embarrassed for it to be seen the way it looks right now! :lmao:

But after I do just a bit more testing, Oly will be torn down entirely, blasted, repainted (no time for powdercoat ), and re-assembled and ready for TTC in Montana....if I get voted in.

I'd love some Super 300s in the rear, but it's just too dang expensive. So instead I'll cut down the cups to get more steering. I think it'll work out nicely. Given the crazy steering throw of the front end, this thing should have a stupid tight turning radius! Pics soon!

if time is the issue, ive got a new set of axial cvds and with new gunner pins your welcome to use for montana. both new in package.

Thanks, Cory, but time isn't the issue. I've busted the Axial CVDs with the oversized Gunnar pins already so I know they won't last in this rig. The dogbones/cups won't offer quite as much steering as the Super 300s (or regular CVDs), but they're plenty strong and for the rear, that's my main concern. "thumbsup"

Yup, run those dogbones. They won't break and will give you enough steering for rear steer imo. "thumbsup"

Same route I am running Tommy. I love my 300's for the front but could not justify them for the rear. I did the same mod shaving down the cup for a couple more degrees.
I did the same number on Axial CVD's with 2.2 wheels pop as soon as you put any power to them 1.9 no worries.

Thanks, guys. I'm stoked! I got the settings all done on the radio and it's working like a charm! My only concern now is the bump steer. It's pretty bad considering it's a triangulated 4 link. So I'm pretty sure I'm going to convert it to a 3 link and add a panhard bar to get rid of the bumpsteer. Hopefully I can get these tweaks done tonight and grab some pics... 8)

I'm glad it's working for you Tommy. Is the rear steer set up with steps or does it just swing from side to side? I have mine set up with 13 steps so I have fairly minor increments to steer it with. I'm not sure how the 4pl works. Hope you can get the bump steer out of it...that's not good for the rear. I decided to drop the money on Super 300's for mine.....ouch .
