drilling air holes

my scx10 had holes in the stock wheels

i installed a set of axial beadlock wheels and 2.2 tsl tires if i drill holes in the wheels and go in water what will happen to the dirt and water inside the tires

is it worth drilling holes
 
Yes in my opinion drilling vent holes is a must. Without proper vents, the tire seems to be a little too stiff to conform over uneven terrain. I have run with holes in the wheels before but when water gets in, there is no way for it to escape. What I do is cut holes in the tire itself, right in the middle of the tread one on each side. This way as the tire turns, the water is forced out by centrifugal force. It can be done with a leather punch which is best, but I've used an 1/8" old drill bit, heat it with a propane/mapp torch and melt a hole. I've never had the hole in the tire tear either. Hope this helps.
 
I always vent my wheels. Non vented beadlocks will hold some air, but its not consistent on all four corners, and on hot days you'll have full tires which makes the rig bouncy, on cold days flat tires, also not a good thing.

As long as youre not running memory foams the water will usually get squished out through the vents for the most part with no ill effects on the foam. Memory foam though does not play well with water at all ever.

what about running no foams with holes

Running no foams with holes will give you a flat tire. You could try no foams and no holes, but will probably get an undesirable result.

The foam is the medium to keep the tire "inflated" instead of air. The vent holes let the actual air out so the tire conforms to the rocks better, similar to a 1:1 tire when aired down.

If you drill the hole in the wheel the proper size, you can use a grub screw to seal the wheel when running in water.
