Headphone listeners

No, she ordered them Tuesday last week, hoping she'd get them in before the weekend. Obviously that didn't happen, but she called earlier this morning and said they were in.....and they're deifnitely the straight cord version. "thumbsup"

Now....tips for burn-in?

I've gone from believing in burn in, to not believing in it, to believing in it, to being shown there is so little difference in a headphones measurements that changes from brand new, to hour 300 that I don't really believe in it now. But to ease my mind, I always play something for a couple hours at normal volume. I understand mechanical properties of flexible things, like bending a piece of thin plastic back and forth, or aluminum, or paper towel, etc. They get softer.

There's a couple websites you can find that have various kinds of white and pink and brown noise (farts?), or test tone sweeps, and there's an App I have on my iPod called Burn In (I think), it was free, that you can set up certain times for. Regular music pretty much will contain all the frequencies you'll hear anyways, so that's easy enough.
 
I found a website that has a burn-in loop that I used last night with some white noise, pink noise, test tone sweeps, etc. that I let run for about 5 hours at medium volume. So that should be good, then? I mean, I did use them for about a hour before that just to see how they sounded. I listened to them afterward and they seemed to sound maybe a little cleaner, but I was also half asleep and it could've all been a mental perception, too. I will say for certain, though....they look damn nice! And they're pretty comfortable, too. I'll post my own pics in a day or so.

This guy on Head-Fi threw out a question for anyone in the Sennheiser HD 700 thread, and I asked what's up. He said if I send him my headphones, and can get a connector he found that might work with their proprietary plug in the earcup, he'll let me have the cable. If not I get a $100 credit in his store: Double Helix Cables, Custom OCC Copper Cables for every audio system...

A world's first.

This guy sells a cable that's $3000!! I don't really hear a difference in cables, and I've tried, and I've had friends try. None of us do. But it sure looks pretty.
 
Fun thread. I read once a link you posted, EeePee, to a comprehensive list of headphone reviews. I can't seem to find it, any chance you could dig it up?

I'm looking at grabbing a pair of music cans to go along with my MDR-V600's. Hopefully there will be a few stores locally where I can demo some units. Any recommendations outside of the cheap Grados?
 
Yeah Head-Fi is pretty uh, large and full of shit, but a very good place to get info, so long as you can make your own decisions. The saying of "use your own ears" very much needs to be remembered to be applied in your decision making. And "sorry about your wallet" very much applies also. :mrgreen:

I'm full of recommendations (sort of). How much do you want to spend and what music genres are you into (I should know that answer cause of your music posts, but I'd rather see it typed out). In ears, on ears, over the ears? Closed back design, or is open alright? Narrow it down, man! Amp or no amp?

Above I mentioned the cable that the guy was developing using my headphones. Well, I decided that a long cable was my preference and I went with stock Sennheiser length which costs a bit more. Quite a bit more. I'm now in possession of a cable that clicks in at $502. Copper. $502. For no cost to me. Free. $502. Half the cost of the headphone.

And I'm not a cable believer. I've done tests with friends, blind test so I have no idea what I'm listening to. No difference.

had some issues with my Klipsch s4i's a couple of weeks ago, so i got ahold of their customer support and had a new pair in hand a week and a half later. although it was somewhat slow, their warranty process and customer support seemed great to me. i may have to get ahold of them again though, cuz the right channel on my new pair cracks and pops a bit and it goes in and out of being muffled. at first i thought it was maybe the way that i was putting it in my right ear, but i put it in my left ear and it was better but still existent. i've put about 50 hours on the new pair so i'm going to give them a chance to burn in a bit longer before i contact them again. if worse comes to worse and i do have to get another new pair, maybe i can bitch enough to get them to send me a pair of their new s7i's "thumbsup" wishful thinking a bit...
 
Well that's a bummer. Seems like most in ear types a pretty fragile no matter the brand.
 
Nice, Stu! I had a some Maggies for a short time around 97-98. Magical Mystery Tour never sounded so good. :mrgreen:
 
I just bought 10 pair of Monoprice DJ Style Headphones. They are great! The stage is very small and unpleasant, but they are just so god damn accurate at low and moderate listening levels. With a sharper/ higher/ any sort of high cut I bet they would sound great at all levels.

Everyone gets headphones this Christmas!
 
Yes, I understand they're quite an improvement over the old ones. And we all know those left A LOT to be desired. The question is how do they stack up against the well known good in ears at the same price?
 
i got a job at best buy recently and the discount is great, so since i work in mobile phones and mp3 players i figured i needed to know the product we sell so i picked up a pair of beats IEMs today, so far they don't sound too bad. i like a lot of bass so they are great in that area, high frequency leaves some to be desired compared to my klipsch s4i's, but not too bad. i'm thinkin about pickin up a pair of the bose IE2i's as well to compare them but if these grow on me i may not bother
