The first time I saw a crawler (AX10) the first question I asked was, "Do they have an exact replica of a truck so you could practice 1:1 crawling with the toy?" I didn't know people called it 'scale.'

Now after building up a creeper and then building a custom atv I am ready to get serious about scale.

Oh and I saved up enough money for this beast.

My cat Dyno is pondering the lack of petting due to the new toy on the table.

Still a noob...This is all i've ever built. So I get to ask stupid questions.

That's all for now. This was an easy build so far. Everything came pre-built! The manual was a little lacking (tire installation, 1:1 scale images, maintenance info for shocks, axles, tranny,, where battery goes, BASICALLY noob stuff)

First hard body painting ever

I plan to make it look as close to a stock off the lot late model Toyota as possible. I'm thinkin' beige. This way I can asses its crawl-ability before I do any mods.

Haha I guess I'm lucky then...

Actually, I was missing a few screws (could have been my fault, not sure) and I emailed RC4WD. They replayed to my message after business hours and sent me replacements the next day. So I really can't complain.

I was going to use a really old servo I have for the transmission. Is it going to be too slow/weak?

It's a Futuba FP-S148
Dimensions: 1.59" x 0.78" x 1.42"

Last time I used it I was 10.

You don't need a lot of servo for the trans. I used a basic 60oz servo for mine. Just set your end points and good to go.

Assembling paint. I'm going for a boring beige color. It's going to start as if it just rolled out an 80 year olds garage.

I started with 1000 grit sandpaper so the paint would stick. You can see I haven't sanded the bottom half.

I ordered a HH Torquemaster BR-XL. I really like the fxr but I wanted to try something else. I love being able to my sidewinder into my computer with the castle link. The BR-XL can do the same"thumbsup"

Where are the door handle parts located? Are they yellow? I can't seem to find them.

Also, where do you get these locknut covers?

The handles are on the chrome parts tree with the bumper. The hubs are made by Rc4wd

those fake locking hubs are made by RC4WD, same folks who make the TF2. "thumbsup"

You're going to like the BRXL. I bought my first one for my Wraith and now I have three. It has a great drag brake and I run big torque servos without an external BEC.

Just an observation, not telling you what to do, but if you plan to use some Toyota or Hilux 4x4 stickers, you may want to sand the raised area where they would go on the front fender down flush. I did at someone's recommendation and I'm glad I did. Much cleaner look in my opinion.

Programming with a gui is alot more comfortable than counting lights. Not knocking the brxl or castlelink, you will enjoy that esc.

Good looking build so far, gotta love the tf2's.

I got my BRXL.

It just barely fits in the box. I think I'll just leave the top off of the box. I don't plan on fording any rivers...

I did the first coat of primer

Wet sanded.

I suppose I'll do another layer of primer before I do the color...

The front shocks are so droop. What leaf springs are you using?

I don't like the front shock set up either, I added the lift blocks from Blue Monkey and added a helper leaf spring to help with the axel wrap. I have hardly any travel in the front, thought it would be terrible to crawl with, but it wasn't bad at all.

Pic for reference : I noticed you left out one of your screws in your leaf spring also...and is that a Philips head screw???

Leave the front suspension with the main leaf and one of the helper leafs and remove the internal springs in the shocks. It will sit very drooped. After a couple of runs you may want to add the other leaf back in.

Truth in the matter is, even in the 1:1 scale world many SA leafed front Toyotas sit dropped out and are more down travel then up travel due to high steer set ups and the frame rails. If I snapped a pic of my 1:1 86 SAS 4runner its maybe maybe 2" from the bump stops at ride height but when crawling it drops out nicely
