New guy's first build, Bronco body on SCX10 chassis

Damn! No updates for almost a week. WHAT THE FAWKKKKK!!! Hahah. Jus kiddin. Take your time man. I've learned with this hobby. The faster you go the more things get messed up.

What He said X2!

I learned to take my time to get things done right. I've rushed many times in the past only to have a paint job get ruined, my fingers get glued together, or wiring go up in smoke when i press the "On" button (the wife witnessed this one:shock:).

I rather pick my nose with one finger than two glued together, hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha:lmao:

I'm finally back from my trip and was able to get the droop kit on. I actually ended up using the droop kit as a lift kit, so I will explain my rationale...

When I first decided to lower the body on the chassis I had to stiffen up the spring retainers so that the suspension wouldn't sag (mostly in the front) and the front tires wouldn't rub. The problem then was that the stiff springs caused my suspension to be a full extension when the truck was just sitting still, so there was no downward travel left and it was really hard to compress the suspension in upward travel. Obviously this set up would run like crap over any obstacles since the suspension was way too stiff and the shocks were maxed out. Then came the droop kit..

The droop kit's adjustment gave me the ability to lift the suspension and prevent tire rub, while also being able to soften up the suspension to it's normal range. The overall effect was that the truck was lifted by the kit and then lowered back to normal height by softening the springs. The end result now is that my body sits at a good height, the springs/shocks are right in the middle of their range of motion when sitting still (so I have up and down travel now when hitting an obstacle), and I was able to cut out the stock bump stops to make sure that I am getting max suspension flex WITHOUT rubbing 8)

here are a few pictures of the kit and how the truck sits...

you guys can also see how I mounted the body. Basically I just used threaded rods and nuts run through the stock body mount perches with brads and velcrow on the ends. This set up is surprisingly sturdy and it is really easy to adjust

I may try to lower the body a little bit more to really get it low, since I haven't fine tuned everything yet. I also really want to get a winch on the front and a tire carrier/bumper on the back so I will post a few pics once I get those parts in... And speaking of parts, what on-line places do you all like the most for parts? I've tried one or two places but I was wondering what you recommend.

Hey Dan, welcome back!

Glad you were able to sort out your suspension/ ride height issue.

The ride height looks good from the pics you posted.

Im tempted to get that Proline Bronco body a second time; maybe after i trash the Bronco CGR version.

With regards to parts and ordering (especially with scale rigs), i order from RPPhobby, RC4WD and Tower Hobbies.

I've never had any issues with them.

Oh by the way, a winch is a great addition, I just bolted a Bulldog remote winch to my rig this past Sunday. Im now looking to some add lights and a pull pal.

I like the look you have. I got a chassis used and it had shocks that were way to tall.

I spent a pile time trying to tune the wb and ride height in hind sight I should have went your route and lowered it with smaller tires.

Here is how it sits now on 4" Losi rockcrawler shocks.

This winter I plan on doing some stuff to lower the COG and finish the lighting.

I think I know why I like the proline on your truck and not on anyone else's. you did a chrome grill. I think that's the first time I've seen that on this body and it looks Waaay better than just leaving it the body color. Ride height looks good and I like the droop setup. Excellent work so far.

Another way of lowering the ride height is by swapping the shocks for some shorter ones.

The Losi 4 inch shocks are great for the AX10 but are too long for the SCX10. I had the Losi shocks on my AX10 and got get rid of them when i swapped the chassis. I installed some 90mm shocks which lowered the ride height without losing suspension travel. I also swapped out the 1.9 iroks which are 4.65" in diameter for the 1.5 iroks which are 4.50".

The Baja Claws you have on your rig are 4.75"

Good luck with your tunning!

Dan: waiting for videos of your rig. Good luck with tuning as well. That is the fun part of the hobby!

guys, thanks for all of the comments and input. I have spent a ton of time looking through old posts on here reading about all of your rigs, and it really motivated me to focus on all of the scale details on my truck. Kasey you have a great paint job, and the claws look awesome. Lobo and 93, I love the details you guys did on the beds/roof, etc of your trucks. Right now I am waiting for a rear tire carrier and a detail kit to come in (kit includes mirrors, windshield wipers, etc). Everything should be here tomorrow, so I will post a video once I get all the parts installed!

Thanks for the compliment. I'm looking forward to seeing that little blue bronco in action.

ok guys I was able to get a few things done tonight. First, I went back and forth looking at a bunch of rear bumpers over the past week or so, and I couldn't make up my mind. I really didn't want to cut my stock bumpers off because I love the chrome paint look, so I decided to go with a tough armor tube bumper/tire carrier but I modified it to look like an "add-on" to the stock bumper. I also decided to lower the body slightly down on to the front bumper so it also looked like an "add-on". That might not make sense but here are a few pictures to show what I mean...

lowered the body a little bit so my front bumper was in line with the tube bumper, not sitting on top of the tubes.

same thing with the back bumper, trying to make the tubes line up with the stock bumper

I also added some rear view mirrors. I wanted to add windshield wipers too but BOTH were broken in the package when I got it in the mail today

I also added one more thing, which I think is my favorite addition so far.....

A license plate!! haha

I will make a video this weekend to show you guys everything a little bit better than the pictures so far. My camera is a little blurry since I don't have enough light and didn't want to use the flash since it washed the color out too much.

Now that was hilarious!!!. I was thoroughly enjoying your pics...until i got to the license plate. :lmao: "1 MPG" That had me laughing!!!

Great move on aligning the body to the bumpers! The chrome accents and mirrors make the Bronco stand out. Eye candy, man!

sweet!

thanks guys, I was hoping the license plate would get a laugh.... Wagga, my grill is the stock lexan front end on the proline body. The grill area is painted on the inside of the body with the same chrome paint as the bumpers to give it the shiny look.

Wow. The bronco really looks good. Excellent job. I like how you did the bumpers. Making them match up with he stock bumpers like that. Different and it still looks good. Now get outside and give us so hardcore action shots!!!

Liking this build so far, from one Bronco owner to another!

Reminds me I need to get mine out and go run it! It's been deprived.

ok guys, I tried to make a video of the Bronco in action. I didn't realize how freakin tough it would be to get good shots! This video isn't the greatest so I will try to put something better together.
