Headphone listeners

http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/2013/o...bose-0712.html

"Amar Bose ’51, SM ’52, ScD ’56, a former member of the MIT faculty and the founder of Bose Corporation, has died. He was 83.

Its the headline in today's newspapers here....

This billionaire entrepreneur in 2011 donated majority of his companies shares to MIT. The gift provides MIT with annual cash dividends.
That was a good decision by him "thumbsup"

Have not listned for ages, but back when i did, i used a pair of bayer dynamics headphones witch i back then payed a small fortune for :ror:

Only if it was too late to crank up the big B&W speakers.

Still got the headphones offcourse "thumbsup"

Beyer "thumbsup"

I'm a Sennheiser guy (I suppose), but I'm almost curious about Beyer but the lack of quality control lately is a concern.

The shares are not sellable either. MIT better be welcome. That's a fantastic gift.

I got those when i had the audio bug, wayyy back when i was 20-25 years old.

And thats half a lifetime ago now ;-)

Only listen to music in my car now, and thats via factory speakers and a cheap ass ebay 2din china headunit.

We were in Boston for a lil vacation and i picked up a set of Bose AE2 phones. Very nice for the price. Also very comfortable.Hardly notice them on you."thumbsup""thumbsup"

I think Bose has two strong points, noise cancelation and comfort.

Their cost is a little up there but that's irevelant to me, as an item's worth is in the eye of the purchaser. I understand they sound pretty good. Enjoy them!"thumbsup"

While I'm here, might as well share my newest set up.

iMac to Apple Airport Express > Theta Cobalt > Schiit Mjolnir > Sennheiser HD 600

Solid state balanced amplifier, and the headphones needed to be re terminated with an XLR plug to work. It's actually a boring sound, but in a good way.

Electrostatic headphones are known to be very clear and transparent. I'm only familiar with one, made by Stax. I was impressed. Stax's top of the line model, at around $5k, is considered to be the best headphone out there, period.

My slight concern is about how much voltage they use, and that it's on your head. Upwards of around 500 volts for some models. Little scary.

Do they offer ear drum insurance ?

No highs no lows, it must be Bose

B - buy
O - other
S - stereo
E - equipment

I work in the industry and am proud to say I haven't had to integrate any Bose for over 4 years now

im more looking for amps/speakers but i thought they were interesting and worth a look..cool stuff
thanx

Yeah a step up transformer box. And amplifier.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt!

I've enjoyed my Phiaton MS-300's, not a popular choice but great quality and sound. I wanted something closed back, more portable, and comfortable. Pretty impressive that they only weigh 6 ounces, and fold up to fit in a small hardshell case. I've been driving them with a small Fiios amp.

Not really. Not unless your headphones are hard to drive.

But, amplifiers are tone controls. And/but, it all depends.

And/but, things like iPods and iPhones can drive a bunch of headphones without problem. So, no need for another amp sometimes.

Hey PP... you got any recommendations on a budget (ie <$75) record player with a 3.5mm audio output jack? I want to pick up a player for my sister for Christmas as I bought her a couple of vinyls of her favorite bands.

This won't help anyone currently in the market, but I've been using the same headset for well over 15 years.

Strangely enough, they're a no-name brand $20 clearance set from Service Merchandise when they were closing my local brick and mortar store. The only thing printed on them is "Digital Super Bass Monitor".

Over all these years, I have yet to find a set of headphones or earbuds that compares to these.

I've tried all the normal ones. Skull candy, Beats by Dr. Dre, Turtle beach (worst ones I tried of the bunch), the various Apple earbuds. The new Earpods are actually quite good.

I'm still searching for a new set as I can't imagine these headphones lasting much longer.
