Getting ready to remove and paint my emblems satin black, just wondering what I should beware of when removing them. Also any info on painting chrome plastic would be helpful. Thanks.

Most emblems now days are just stuck on with HD tape. A little simple green or WD40 sprayed on the edges and a bondo or other plastic scraper will help them come un-stuck. Clean the area with glass cleaner to get rid of the residue and you're good.
I too just take them all off and toss'm. I like a shaved rear. (Don't go there) lol

PlastiDip is also fun stuff, I use it to black out all my chrome trim.

"RONSONOL" lighter fluid will remove glued on emblems and not harm the paint beneath except for stripping the wax from the paint.

The RONSONOL will also remove any old sticky from the back of the emblem.

Scuff the plastic, chrome or stainless up really well with a ScotcBrite abrasive pad.

Wash the emblem with straight white vinegar.

Spray on an enamel or lacquer primer, and top coat with matching paint.

The vinegar wash is the key to get paint to adhere for any length of time, it etchs the chrome/stainless surface allowing the paint to bite.

.

Thanks for all the info guys. Anyone got any pics of there's that is plastidipped.

There's been some on the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Avenger forums I go on that have gotten into it, some of them love it, personally I prefer a little Chrome, especially on the darker colored 200's like my black '12 Touring.

Here's one poster's car as bought,

and now after "dipping" the grill bars and wing badge.

Especially when it looks like a pencil mustache:roll:

Plasti-dip um
I put 3 coats on it
Once it dry's...good, start to peel it up and start pulling it up to emblem.
Once it starts getting close to emblem, pull down/up/sideways, close to vehicle....it just snaps and curls behind emblem. It's like it has perforation holes next to emblem:shock:
I think it works great & looks alot better"thumbsup"
I donr this little over a year ago, still holding up

I use fishing string to remove the emblem, but be careful of any locator nubs on the emblem. Toyota has em on the big one. Then goo gone or goof off to remove glue residue. For painting I use the VHT wheel paint after scuffing the emblem with scotch brite pad or whatever.

I used fishing line and Goo Gone on my Slowbalt to get the back Chevy emblem, trim level letters and front fender GM badges off, worked great.

It'll be lower this spring so it won't look like a monster truck.

if your removing adhesive type emblems it doesnt hurt to use a heat gun along with the methods allready posted..it will make the glue/adhesive release better without pulling off paint(more an issue with older cars paint)

look at the forum. There are many people using this stuff to do this exact thing. I have always been more of a pull them off and toss them in the trash kind of guy, but this seems to be a decent alternative.

Emblems and Badges

I tend to think more along Violator's line here too, especially if it's being painted body color, why keep it at all?

The only reason I can see is if it's like some Toyota's or VW's, they have the trunks with recessed areas for them emblems to go, and they look worse when you pull them off.
