I just got an scx10 honcho and I got some nimh batteries for it.

My question is can the stock motor and esc handle 2s lipo batteries or would it just burn up the motor and esc.

Thanks

yes It will be just fine. I run 3s on mine with a bec. "thumbsup"

ok thanks I just wanted to make sure because their website didn't say it was lipo compatable. I already ordered the nimhs. So hopefully I will upgrade to lipos later.

Do you know an estimate about how long a 6 cell 3000mah 7.2V nimh battery would last on my stock honcho?

I run stick packs. You'll only get 25-30 min out of a 3000Mah at the most.

I will test out my nimhs first, then if the run times are too short I will switch to lipos. How long does it usually take lipos to charge?

Make sure you have the Low Voltage Cutoff enabled on your ESC! You can't drain a Lipo like you can with a NiMH.

I have 2 4000mah 2S lipos for my drifter and they take about 55-60 minutes to charge on 1C charge rate.

I've averaged about 25-35 minutes on a 3000 mah stick battery. they can handle 2s just fine, but with a 3s you will need a BeC for your other electronics.
my rig runs around with 8.4v Nimh packs right now. because I know I would forget to maintain my Lipo's. xD

ok thanks for that time, I guess its not too bad lol

Capacity is capacity regardless of NiMH or lipo.
You would think that would be the case. But I've found it's not. I can be running a 3000 stick pack in a stock honcho and my buddy runs a 3000 30c lipo in his stock honcho and he almost doubles my run times. And I'm running the same lines he is.I'm not running around wide open and he's not.We run kind of like fallow the leader.I don't know what it is.Maybe discharge rates. I think they have the same capacity but the NiMH's dump their power faster then lipos. All I know is that my NiMH's can never hang with the lipos."thumbsup"

I agree with this as well. Now a 2s lipo say 4200 you're gonna get 1 to 2 hours depending on your driving I can hammer on mine for a good hour at least waiting on the battery to die and seems like it never does.

And that's why I'm making the change to lipos..After 25+ years of stick packs.

Tiny,

Hmmm....that's interesting. There must be another factor like discharge rate that you mentioned. Higher discharge rate would empty the "tank" faster though.

Exactly NiMH dump their power a lot faster then lipos. It's like a ford pinto VS a ford mustang. They're both cars. One just does the job a whole lot nicer....lol "thumbsup"
