scale mountain shack

I was inspired by another member's build of a scale mountain shack building and so I began my own project to later add to my backyard crawl area.

I've been working on it for almost a week already but started with a simple frame.

added some bracing

floored the porch area and began framing the front wall

then added a door, the knob is a broken off aluminum shock eye that works pretty well

I wasn't sure how I was going to do the siding so I did the first wall and liked how it looks so I'll be doing the rest like this as well.

This is about where it's sitting as of tonight.

Thanks here's a bit more progress from this morning, while I was having trees removed from my yard

Worked on the shack throughout the day and got a bunch more done.

I decided to add a fireplace for those cold winter nights but lined the inside with some exhaust tape so I could actually have a fire in there without torching the entire place.

started with a basic mantle

lined the inside with the tape and made siding panels from 1/32" balsa and you can see where I tried aging the wood with my heat shrink gun

then hot glued some very small river rock gravel on the siding for that real mountainous look

I haven't glued rocks all the way to the side of the building yet because I want to add a varnish still

Framed most of the roof tonight, I'm probably going to leave it removable just in case I need to access the interior for any reason in the future

and a small update, laid the first layer of "plywood" for the roof (1/16" balsa) which I'll be shingling over, started playing with different stain colors and aged the exterior a bit more with my heat gun.

I'm not sure what it is but the cabin kinda gives me an Evil Dead feeling :twisted:

I finished up the rest of the siding, stained most of the shack and started laying shingles. After they're all in place I'll have to go back through and stain the exposed edges from breaking the wood into small pieces.

It's crazy how just different lighting changes the look drastically even though both of these are after staining

finished up the rocks last night and I'm going to still add another short section of chimney above the wood that's at the top right now along with some sort of vent cap

and some interior items arrived so I glued those in place, the rug is left loose
