Southern Builds flavor in a scale looking competition truck. The goal is to build a scale, competitive, fun to crawl truck with some of the best looking scale components we can get our hands on.

All the welding, bending, grinding, and swearing is done at Southern Builds Fabrication "thumbsup"

We are aiming for a 12 3/8 -12.5" wheelbase.

The chosen scale components at the moment are as follows:
  • K44 axles
  • Hammer 1.47:1 transfer case setup for front overdrive
  • R3 Single Speed Transmission
  • Ultimate Scale Driveshafts
  • King 90mm Shocks FR & 100mm Shocks RR with 2K Diff fluid and TBD springs top & bottom
  • MadDogRC Scale 3" light bar
  • Mayhem Trailreadys wrapped in Rock Beasts stuffed with Wild Deuce Mad Beast foams

The power will come from a Holmes Hobbies Crawlmaster Expert 13T @ 6deg of timing fed by a 2200 3S through a FX-R.

The steering duties will be carried out by a Savox 1230SG regulated by a Castle BEC @ 6V

Feel free to share your opinion on this build. All criticism is welcome!

On to the pics

The whole build started over arguing of doing rails out of flat stock, but once Don convinced me to do a Ladder Style chassis rails the details are starting to come in naturally.

Here's the transfer case mounted

Yes that's a cross member that will be bolted on 8)

Next will be the motor mounts 8)

Ideas keep floating around for the rear cage part. Any suggestions?

You said competition truck so I have to ask - Is this suppose to be SORRCA legal?

Competition style, but not in the least SORRCA or RC competition related. If it ends up SORRCA legal that's great, but if it doesn't that's fine too "thumbsup"

Transfer Case buttoned up!

Transmission & Motor in place!

Cab mounted to flat stock and some interior cage welded up 8)

Radius bar with a flat plate welded in to protect the spur from up-travel impact if something should get stuck between the links

Body mounting leg bowed out for motor clearance

Spur should stay nicely hidden

Nice and tight all the way around

Some light body work "thumbsup"

Don threw together a quick dash 8) The bottom will serve for mounting the FXR and BEC

Front is still somewhat undecided at the moment. I'd like to integrate a small light bar in the front bumper and some rock lights. What's out there people?

Rear door bracing came out better looking than expected with the bends to clear the cab

Bulletproof dash

Gotta make sure you can pull the handle :flipoff:

I've seen this bar on a lot of rigs and couldn't shake the extreme want to copy with a little twist

Interior cage X-brace

From the rear

Door bars, in case future bodies may be doorless

The body has been notched to fit the cross bar snug

Deep feels for the X-Brace

sweet build! Will it weigh a ton when it's all said and done?:shock:
