After a loooong hiatus from RC, I've finally started to become interested again.

I've had a couple projects on my bench for about a year now that I've never finished. I finally decided it was time to finish them all and start enjoying all these rigs I have.
I had no intention of starting my another project. :)

I then cam across the KnightCustoms JK build and immediately knew that I had to have one similar.
His fender wells sealed the deal for me!

My idea of not starting another project has now officially left the building!!!

I immediately startEd researching what I wanted to buy.
I knew I wanted to go more scale than I ever have before.

I ended up with a rubicon kit.

My build consists of:

Axial JK Rubicon kit
Knight Customs fender wells
Vanquish Products poison spyder brawler rockers.
Motoworx wheels with LURC hardware
Axial BFG Krawler T/A tires
Tekin FXR
castle BEC
axial 27t motor
Savox servo
Vanquish light bar with mounts
Vanquish cms kit

As soon as I had the kit in hand, I ordered the fender wells.
And the. I waited impatiently for them to arrive.
While waiting I started rummaging through old parts to try to save some cash.

Here is my initial pile o parts.

I love them so far. I've had them for over a year and really never used them much.

They mounted up to a set of Rc4wd tires nicely, and my BFG's just mounted quick and easy as well.

My one issue that I have ran into is the scale lug nuts.
The tool won't fit inside the center cap to tighten them.
I'm Going to lathe it down today to see if that helps.

They are a great wheel for the price and I love that you don't see them a ton on other rigs.

I would reccomend them.

digging the wheels. Im gonna be ordering the knights custom jk stuff here soon as well

The knight customs stuff is awesome.

Like I said, it was the reason I chose to dive back into the hobby.

I can't wait for his grille to become available.

I've been busy building as I have time.

I've been trying to save my paint job for a week now. :x

It's ready for electronics and the body.

Here are a few pics of how it sits currently.

I've also borrowed T-money's Dudley deadbolt battery mount idea, but modified it to work with the fender wells.

I used the servo mounts from the kit on the chassis, and then used the bent rod ends with 15mm axial spacers mounted to the frame crossbrace.
I did have to drill the battery plate.

Finished the body color finally.

I wanted something different than what you usually see and different than what I would normally do (white)

I tried about 20 different color combos before settling on this one.

I took 2 nights prepping my the body and predisposing all my holes.
I was very tedious and cautious not to miss any steps.

But then when I decided to lay my first coat of pearl paint, my brain shut down and I was just a jackass with a can of paint in my hand.

For some reason after I layer a thin first coat, I opted the go back over it again fairly heavy (this was a terrible idea and I knew that from my color testing)

It took many hours of very thin coats of paint to save it. It's not perfect, but it'll do and isn't bad enough to warrant buying another $50 body.

It is a pearl grey color.
Pics don't do it justice.

Subscribed looking really good been thinking about getting some of those inner fenders myself just wish 1.1 would stop acting up so I can finish mine :x

paint looks good! what brand is it if you don't mind me asking?

It's a combination of multiple tamiya colors. I started with pearl clear and backed it with gray.

I put waaaay to much clear on though, so it has its flaws.

I also wish that I hadn't masked off the grille to paint it black, because with the amount of paint I had to lay down to repair my clear coat, it caused my lines to bleed a little.

Now a knight customs grille will be mandatory

Wheels look fantastic. The paint looks great and the grill thing, everything happens for a reason. So you were meant to use a custom grill and it will look sick, no biggie.

I lathed down my tool for the LURC lug nuts tonight.

It worked great for about 6 lug nuts before it broke.

Now I'll have to lathe down my extra one to get these lug nuts back off.

I think it's time to come up with a different wheel nut cover.

I also ran into the same problem with the lugs not fitting with the hub covers. I use the LURC Pro hubs looks pretty awesome.... remember to get the tool for those also. Here's a pic

That looks to be the exact path I am headed down.

I'm looking into other wheel options as well at this point.
The center caps of the motoworx wheel is what I've always loved about them the most.

I have a set of those hubs for my TJ build, so I think I'll end up just buy it another set.
