Ok so my buddy has an ascender and when he plugged in his new battery we went to crawl and he had no reverse. I tried resetting Ecm and binding tx/rx but still not getting any reverse. Also this truck was working fine a couple days ago when we had it out. I have no idea what else to do. Both my friend and I are new to surface rc so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ecm is in crawl mode and lipo battery mode.

What ESC and Motor is he using? When do you let off the throttle while moving forward, the rig should stop right away. Thats the way most of the crawler modes works. If you can move the car by hand, when its stoped in crawler mode, that would be a bad motor or esc i quess.

Probably a dumb question, but did you wait a couple seconds in the neutral range on the transmitter, before trying reverse? Crawl mode has a reverse delay, as using reverse gets you a penalty at comps. Generally the transmitter has to be in neutral 1-2 seconds before the reverse works. Probably a dumb question, but it solved my "why does my reverse sometimes not work?"

Just a few minutes ago, i have played with throttle trim on my Tx. And guess what? If i went too far, reverse didnt work. If i went too far to the opposite side, my rig was slowly accelerating on its own. So take a look on this, you never know ...

X2, more info please.

Probably something got changed in esc or transmitter setup or bad esc.

Update.....I updated this earlier but I guess it didn't save. So here is what I know. Everything is stock. We checked the rx/tx settings and what not. I guess he called horizon today and they troubleshooted back to a bad esc which is what I thought but the truck has only been out in maybe 7 times. So horizon is sending a new esc free of charge. The only sucky thing is that it's on back order so I had no trail mate until then :-( thanks for every bodies help!

Here you go, supposedly same waterproof esc as new Axial unit that comes in SCX now. Order one or two of these, get up and running quickly and then you and your buddy will both have trail spare!

HOBBYWING North America — QUICRUN 16 Brushed ESC

But is there a drag brake?

EDIT: Ohhh, not sure but others in SCX area were saying it's same esc. Drag brake on it appears to be set with a small jumper on physical contact pins like the latest Axial esc.

Axial AE-5 for comparison, info from Axial's site about AE-5 ESC:
The AE-5 ESC features include 3S LiPo capability, adjustable drag brake and it's waterproof! Settings can be easily switched “in the field” between LiPo and NiMH battery types with a simple jumper – no more complex procedures!
• Jumper 1 provides a simple plug and play choice between LiPo or NiMH batteries
• Jumper 2 switches drag brake settings
• Waterproof design with waterproof on/off switch

Axial AE-5 ESC with drag brake at RPPHobby, I've ordered from them many times and great service, fast shipping, and good prices!

Vaterra ESC on HorizonHobby site (back ordered) sure looks exactly like Hobbywing Quicrun except for the two little screw mounting ears on the case and cross cut milled into red heatsink. As best as I can read via web the jumper settings are labelled the same, but I don't know 100% sure
